Reading at Home | BorrowBox and Goodreads

Reading is a fantastic stress reliever. It’s said reading alleviates stress faster than taking a walk, listening to music, or sitting down with a hot cup of tea. But without the ability to peruse the shelves of our local library, deciding what to read next can become a challenge. If you’re finding yourself or a loved one stuck between novels or unsure of what to read next, here are some free resources to help.

BorrowBox (https://www.borrowbox.com/)

BorrowBox is the ultimate library app. It provides access to a huge range of eBooks, eMagazines, and audiobooks. (And yes – audiobooks count as reading! They can improve children’s reading skills, their enjoyment of literature, and can be particularly beneficial for struggling or reluctant readers.) All you need to do to enjoy this app is ensure you have signed-up for a free digital membership at your local library. This can be done online. Find out more about Yarra Plenty digital library memberships here: https://yprl.spydus.com/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/MSGTRN/WPAC/JOIN

Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/)

Goodreads describes itself as “the world’s largest site for readers and book recommendations.” They aren’t kidding. Here you will find reviews, ratings, discussions and suggestions for stacks of books. Users compile collections based on genre and interests. It’s great for keeping a record of what you’ve read, and members can even set and adjust their own reading challenges throughout the year.
