Remote Learning - Key Information
· The State government announced that we will be having a snap 7-day lockdown starting Friday 28th. Class will be remote from Monday 31st May till Thursday 3rd June.
· At this stage, we expect we will all be back on Friday 4th of June.
· Year 10 and year 11 exams will commence as scheduled, please ensure you are preparing for these the best you can during this remote teaching and learning period.
· Year 11 Structured Workplace Learning will not go ahead, all students will be expected to attend their structured classes via Google Meet.
· All students will receive communication from their teachers for the scheduling of Google Meets to occur at the beginning of all classes as per the students Compass Timetable. Students should refer to their school Gmail accounts and Google Classrooms for details. Students should also monitor their Compass Newsfeed for communication and messages.
What does this mean for me?
From Monday students are expected to attend all their classes as per the Compass timetable. Teachers will be sending out Google Meet invites for each of their classes, this will be sent through either via Google Calendar or Google Classroom. Students are to be regularly checking their Compass News Feed and School Gmail account for more information.
What do I need to have?
In preparation for remote learning, students should have taken all necessary resources home - this should have included their laptop, charger, any other device (CAS Calculator), learning materials etc. If any of these are of a concern to students or they require support in any of these areas please reach out to their Year Level Coordinator/House Leader.
Students who are currently aware that they do not have the required materials are asked to call reception (Front Admin Office) on 03-97490246 during school hours of 9am to 4pm to notify the College of their name and the materials required to support them during remote learning and the college will attempt to assist.
What if I need support during remote learning?
All students can access support throughout remote learning. Classroom teachers are best placed to support students with subject-based support and this is best provided during their allocated class time. Year level coordinators and House Leaders can also provide overarching support where needed. The College Wellbeing team is also available to support students throughout remote learning, with online or phone support available.
How will the College communicate with me?
The College will communicate all essential information via the Compass newsfeed. It is expected that students and families check this regularly to ensure that they are kept up to date with information relevant to their learning.
Will I have assessments?
SAC’s and formal summative assessments will be postponed during this week unless they are ongoing or/and can continue to commence. More specific information will be provided by the Domain Leaders and subject teachers. Formative assessments will continue to be provided in a range of ways, based on the subject program.
How will the College track attendance?
Attendance will be marked as per usual on Compass. The expectation is that students will attend all their classes and are present throughout the duration of the Google Meets. It is important students communicate with their teacher/college if they cannot attend a lesson via an email. The VCAA and College expectation is that 90% attendance is required.
When will my classes run?
All classes will have a scheduled Google Meet. This will occur for every single and double session. It is expected that students will attend all classes, be on time and prepared to participate
in remote learning. It is recommended that all students attend classes with their cameras on where possible. Students requiring help within their subject are best to contact their teachers during class time.
What will happen to my event or excursion?
All excursions and events during the remote learning period will be postponed. This includes Structured Workplace Learning for VCAL students.
