Wellbeing Report

Andre Campbell

JUMPER POLICE!

In the mornings I love hearing the grumbles from students that parents are, “making them” put on a jumper.  Well, it has been quite cold lately and I see there has been some improvement.  However, don’t assume that older students are prepared for the day.  Please keep up that nagging!

LUNCHES

We have some children complaining that they are hungry at break times.  If children are hungry this really impacts on their concentration, moods and their learning.  When the weather is cold our bodies burn more energy to stay warm.  Please talk to your kids and adjust their lunchboxes accordingly.  My advice is to always send extra food and then parents can monitor hunger levels and have conversations about nutrition.

HEAD LICE UPDATE

All families need to continue to be vigilant and screen their children’s hair.  This week we’ve had a case in Preps and also in the grade 5/6 classrooms.  Please notify the office or tell your child’s teacher when you treat your child and a lice alert notification will go onto COMPASS.  Reminder-any child found with live lice will be excluded from school until they are treated.

THE RESILIENCE PROJECT

Parent Information Session 16th June

On Wednesday 16th June we are lucky enough to have Hugh van Cuylenburg from 'The Resilience Project'  coming out to hold a parent information session. Hugh will speak about raising children in the age of technology, positive mental health strategies and building resilience.

I really do recommend parents to save the date and register for this event. I have read Hugh’s book and I have heard him speak.  Parents will leave enriched and confident to support your children and families. If you have not already registered please book your free ticket at-https://www.trybooking.com/BQZWZ

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORTS

We promote many opportunities for families and students to be an active part of our local community and encourage parents to be a part of our extra-curricular activities.  Our welfare team are available to support families in times of need as we have established partnerships with a number of services.   For families looking to purchase school uniform and are experiencing tough times, we can apply to State School Relief for clothing and school supplies.  We also offer playgroup on Tuesday afternoons, weekly parent coffee catch ups, parent forums, guitar & keyboard lessons and holiday camps for students, breakfast club and many other activities throughout the year.   We would love to meet you so see myself or Veronica for further information.

CYBER SAFETY

We often speak to parents about student’s behaviour on-line. Flick has done a fantastic job to provide parents access to information quickly on our school webpage. If you have questions please ask.

As a school, we integrate cyber safety into our wellbeing policies, establishing clear procedures to deal with incidents, and deliver curriculum around the smart, safe and responsible use of technology. More information can be found at www.esmart.org.au  and parents can find the links on the school’s webpage.

WHAT DOES eSMART MEAN?

eSmart assists teachers, students and the whole school community embrace the benefits of technology and reduce exposure to cyberspace risks such as cyberbullying, identity theft, online sexual predation and accessing or sending inappropriate images and content.

NEED HELP WITH SOCIAL MEDIA?

The office of eSafety has a great webpage with lots of information on cyber safety issues. In particular, it has lots of practical information on the different social media apps that you and/or your children may be accessing.  Visit the site below to find out more-

ATTENDANCE & ABSENCES

It’s great that parents are using COMPASS and I am pleased that parents are calling to explain absences.  This really helps us as we are able to communicate effectively with all relevant staff early in the school day.

Regular attendance at school is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students.  We encourage parents and carers to refer to COMPASS for information happening at school.  We encourage all parents to communicate when your child is going to be away and to notify the school through COMPASS.   Thank you!

WOORI WALLABIES PLAYGROUP –TUESDAY’S 1:30-3:00PM IN THE MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM

1th June- Books (Eastern Library Story Time cancelled)

8th June-Under the Sea

15th June-Dinosaurs (last session for the term)

Woori Wallabies Playgroup is open to anyone in the community. Playgroup is so much fun, children meet new friends while they play and learn. We welcome all parents and carers to be a part of our group and we appreciate parents helping us run the program.

SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS AND WELLBEING PROGRAMS

On Tuesdays our social skills groups have started over recess and lunchtime.  Each week we will be rotating the groups from Grade 1-Grade 4.  The BEST playground bouncing back advice from physical and emotional bumps is teaching your child resilience.  Rate the bump on a scale of 1 to 10 and then ask your child what would help to make it better (even one number less is a good start).  If your child has missed out please speak to your classroom teacher as we will be running more groups next term. The Resilience Project and Respectful Relationships lessons are also happening each week in the classrooms.

Across the week we have a number of opportunities for students to feel supported with their friendships whether it’s during break times out in the yard/electives or speaking to our welfare team.   If you have any questions or are looking for tips please speak to staff.  We really hope your children come home from school happy to talk and share their day with you.

ACTIVITIES AT BREAK TIMES-LEGO CLUB WEDNESDAYS AT LUNCHTIME

Many students are enjoying a range of supervised activities over the course of the week. Some of the things on offer include Dodge Ball, colouring, choir, LEGO club and bring your device to school day.  If your child is interested please speak to staff for more details.

LEGO club is very popular and we continue to build our our LEGO resources.  We need LEGO bases and general LEGO materials.  If you know of anyone who has outgrown their LGEO and is wishing to donate to the school I am interested. Please bring your donations to the office or speak to me if you have any questions.  These clubs are a great way for children to make more friends as well as have fun at recess or lunch breaks.

ACTIVITIES AT BREAK TIMES-LEGO CLUB WEDNESDAYS AT LUNCHTIME
