Peer Connect

Dear Families,

For some time now, we have been running weekly Peer Connect sessions, where we have a focus on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). Students have been placed into multi-age groups which they will remain in throughout their time here at OGPS. The groups will usually stay with the same teacher each year, depending on any staffing changes. At the end of the year, each group will lose their year six students and gain about four new kids from Prep the following year.

Recently, our two Learning Captains Mem and Tess created a yearly scope and sequence, so that we are consistent across the school in our Peer Connect sessions. They focused on all the aspects of the SEL Wheel and placed each skill into a school term that they felt worked best. That way, all teachers and students can collaborate to teach similar messages about SEL across the school. When Tess and Mem created this, they were adamant that all lessons should be fun. Here is what they created:

TERM 1: Getting to know each other

Collaboration

Confidence

Respect

Creativity

TERM 2: Five Core Competencies

Self-Awareness

Self-Management

Responsible Decision Making

Relationship Skills

Social Awareness

TERM 3: Committed Learners

Commitment

Critical Thinking

Curiosity

Compassion

Resilience

TERM 4: GEM

Gratitude

Empathy

Mindfulness

Growth Mindset

I would like to thank our Learning Captains Tess and Mem, who spent a lot of time working together to create this. They have done a wonderful job and are two of our terrific school leaders.

Thanks for all your continued support,
