Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome to the Term 3, Week 8 edition of the newsletter. The term is going by so quickly and there’s still so much more to come. Everyone is getting excited about the Fairvale Festival. We haven’t been able to perform for such a long time and the show promises to be amazing. We have dancing, drama, artworks and the choir performing. Tickets have been on sale for parents to purchase from the office verandah. From today, all parents and friends can purchase additional tickets to the matinee and night show on Wednesday 21 September, 2022. As a special treat, all non-performers in Years 3 to 6 are invited to attend the matinee performance – the school will cover the cost of the bus. Notes were sent home yesterday.

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

This last fortnight I visited K Zebra Sharks and 3 Angelfish.

KZ – My bike visit to KZ was very good. Some of the children had so many questions as to why I was riding a bike to their classroom. After I answered most of the questions, I was able to spend some time with each table to find out what they were learning about. The lesson focus was about take away or the difference between two numbers. Children used cubes to build their towers of ten. Some of the children were using number lines to assist their learning – this was impressive stuff! Everyone was participating and writing their solutions in their maths books. I had an awesome visit to KZ. Thank you, KZ!

3A – On Wednesday I visited 3A during a mathematics lesson. At the beginning of the lesson, Mr Carbone was modelling the different types of activities the children could select from. It was pleasing to see lots of mathematical reasoning taking place as the children were subtracting single digit numbers. Reasoning is important as it helps us to understand new concepts. As with KZ, I spent time with each table, checking in on their learning and asking them lots of questions about partitioning numbers. It was very clear that the children have a thorough understanding, and I am sure they will be able to build upon this learning for the next lesson. VISIT FROM THE EDUCATION MINISTER

On Friday 26 August 2022, we hosted Minister Sarah Mitchell - Education Minister, for a visit to Fairvale Public School. Minister Mitchell’s visit was to discuss the implementation of the new draft K-2 English and Mathematics Syllabuses. Our K-2 teachers have been using these syllabuses, with the support and guidance from our Assistant Principals – Curriculum and Instruction. During the discussion, Mrs Rosic, Ms Batar, Miss Fletcher, Miss Cassady, Miss Zanatta and Miss Nak spoke about the new syllabuses, focusing on what’s working well and what could be improved. After the discussion, Minister Mitchell visited Miss Rosic and K Rainbow Fish and spent time talking to the children about their learning. Minister Mitchell was genuinely interested in what we had to say and since the visit, Mrs Rosic has already been communicating with her team. The Minister was super excited with the ‘thank you’ gift, especially Frankie’s gift – the bag of green frogs! I am pleased the Minister chose Fairvale Public School to visit and I would also like to thank Mrs Lisa Porter, Director Education Leadership - Fairfield Network, for attending as well. Well done everyone!

SECRETARY’S AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE – OUTSTANDING SCHOOL PROJECT

I am excited to share some wonderful news with the school community. We found out a few weeks ago that our school would be receiving a special award from the Secretary, Department of Education. The award is for our outstanding school project – ‘Community Liaison Officer’. As you know Miss Michelle and Miss Samira share this important role at Fairvale Public School with the task of ensuring our connection between school and families is strong. Our CLOs do this by coordinating Parent Café, supporting families and teachers with Seesaw and consistent attendance. Most importantly, the unwavering of support given to our families each and every day is often guided by the leadership of Miss Michelle and Miss Samira. Miss Fletcher and I were lucky enough to accompany our CLOs to the awards night on Tuesday – check out some of the pics in this edition of the newsletter. Congratulations Miss Michelle and Miss Samira!

FATHER’S DAY

I am hoping all our Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles and big Brothers all had a lovely Father’s Day last Sunday. I am sure you loved the gift you received as well. A very big thank you to our Mums from Parent Group who attended last week to assist at the Father’s Day Stall – it is much appreciated by the whole community. Thank you also to Miss Michelle and Miss Samira for coordinating the stall as I know there is quite a lot of planning that goes on to ensure these days run smoothly.

SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL RESULTS

I am very pleased to announce that we 3 of our Year 6 students have been successful in gaining entry to a selective high school in 2023. This is amazing achievement and one to be very proud of. Congratulations to Antonia, Evan and Edmond who have all accepted their placement offer. For those students who have missed out, I am sure you are disappointed, but now is not the time to give up. Continue to do your best by attending school every day, completing all assessment tasks and most importantly have fun. Once again, I congratulate these 3 students and their families. Well done!

SAS STAFF RECOGNITION WEEK – 5 September – 9 September

This week is a special one for our School Administrative and Support Staff (SAS Staff) as we pay tribute and recognise the amazing work they all do as part of National SASS Recognition Week. We have been surprising the staff all week with special treats and memorable drawings.

ROAD SAFETY

In the last edition of the newsletter, I spoke about road safety in relation to people driving cars and our pedestrian crossing. This week I would like to speak to pedestrians who use Sackville Street. This street is always busy no matter what time of the day and it is extremely dangerous to see and hear that Fairvale children cross this street by themselves or even with an adult. I would urge all pedestrians to use the set of lights on Cathcart Street every morning and afternoon. Please stop crossing Sackville Street, it is time to be safe and sensible.

All adults on site will be healthy and ready to work and we expect the same for our children and their families.
