Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

From an author visit to dancing the night away at the Disco, from creating ads for our puppet shows to learning more about division and sharing - it is safe to say that the Inquiry Centre have been showing our school value of life-long learning. The visit from Michael Wagner was a highlight and students were highly engaged and entertained while listening to his stories. There was plenty of laughter and students loved learning more about storytelling and the writing process.

In Writing, students worked with their peers to develop a persuasive ad to convince Mrs Streitberger, Miss Nelson, Mr Shaw and all of Foundation to come and see our puppet shows in Week 10. Before writing, we considered the purpose of our piece and who the audience was to help guide us throughout the writing process. There were many creative ideas including brochures, posters and letters which we have passed on to the appropriate audience. We are looking forward to families seeing our puppet shows when they are posted on Seesaw.

Throughout Reading, we have been exploring the important skill of questioning while reading. Students learnt about how questioning is not always about finding an answer but as a way to check in to make sure that we are focusing on our text and understanding what we are reading. Using sentence starters, students generated questions about non-fiction texts on the Kids News website which built their digital literacy skills as well as their reading! We also spent time unpacking the School Vision and thinking about what it looks like, sounds like and feels like. Home Talk has been posted on Seesaw and we look forward to seeing more of your visual representations of the vision. Thank you to those who have already brought theirs in!

In Maths, students started the week by reflecting on their mindset in Maths using the ‘Learning Pit’ and used many of the things we learn during our Wellbeing lessons to help us. We discussed what it feels like when we learn something new, the challenges we face, the tools we can use and how we feel along the way. Students were so thoughtful and articulate in sharing how they feel about Maths and are looking forward to building their growth mindset. Mistakes and persisting when problems are hard are such important parts of being a mathematician and it was fantastic to see students demonstrate a positive attitude when working on division problems throughout the rest of the week. In the coming weeks, you will see the many strategies that they can use to solve division questions on Seesaw.

This week, we will be focused on rehearsing not only Junior Production but our puppet shows and have allocated some time to create our puppets, sets and props as part of our Guided Inquiry unit on ‘Light and Sound’. We reflect on the character strengths that we are using throughout these sessions as a way of linking Wellbeing into every area of the curriculum. We hope that you notice the creativity, bravery, teamwork and perseverance used to bring our puppet shows to life!

Have a fantastic week,

Mrs Danes, Miss Glen, Mrs Martin, Miss Molloy, Mrs Moroney, Mrs Seadon and Mrs Tang
