Reflections from Year 7 Bright

I asked students in 7 Bright two questions. Here are some of their responses:

What advice would you give to students starting Year 7 at Emmaus in 2023?
  • “There are people there for you who want to help you. Don't feel ashamed to ask for help.”
  • “Remember that you are important, cared for and people will listen to you.”
  • “That people may be bigger than you and stronger than you but here, that does not matter, what matters is who you are and what you are capable of achieving.”
  • “It might seem hard and daunting at first with all the homework and moving around, but the more you push through, the more you get used to these changes.”
  • “Grades don't define who you are. Listen to your teachers, they're just trying to help you to be the best individual you can be!”
What is one thing that you have learned in Christian Studies so far this year?
  • “Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. The words we say can affect a lot of people, so tame the tongue and be careful of what you are saying.”
  • “No matter what you have been through or how much sin and debt you owe, God forgives you. Always go to God with your problems. He will help you find the best way to solve them.”
  • “If God forgives you a million times, why can't you forgive others once or twice? Forgiveness and forgiving is vital to the Christian life.”
  • “To not show favouritism.”
  • “I have learned that God is God, he is in control and I should put my faith into him and fully trust him so he can guide me to the right path in life.”

Year 8 Geography Bushfire Excursion

Our Year 8 Geography students visited Belair National Park to investigate the bushfire risk and the effectiveness of hazard reduction burning. The students followed a guide used nationally by firefighters and fire planners to measure the hazard posed by different types and amounts of vegetation. They also heard from a Senior Regional Fire Management Officer who has supervised hazard reduction burns in the National Park. Students gained a valuable insight into the steps taken to protect what is a very significant landscape in our State.
