「Nathan  | Year 6」

This was the day the authors came to say

what they created and how we celebrated.

As the authors came out and started to share,

the children started to wonder and glare.

When the books came out and were able to be bought,

the children ran to get their book signed with thought.

As the day came to an end,

the children realised that the joy never ends.

As the children left, smiling with glee,

we remember Kirli Saunders' message about planting trees.

We propped ourselves on our chairs and soon it had started.

Katrina Nannestad had come to inspire writers like you and me.

“You never know what you’ll be'' she said. She never liked writing or reading and NEVER EVER thought she would be an author. She told us many funny stories from her life and expressed how things had changed for her.

“The Travelling Bookshop.” tells of Katrina's fragments of her life which reflected how a girl who didn’t like reading would one day be the one creating these magnificent adventures that many adore.

To my surprise she chose me from the audience and asked me to act out one of her book’s characters, a ‘chucklesome’ pirate wearing a tutu and fairy wings. What could be next, you ask? An eyepatch and a pair of slippery clogs! It gave the audience and myself a very good laugh!

From the Melbourne Writers Festival

I was DEFINITELY inspired by Kirli Saunders

Her view on the Earth and nature was mesmerising and inspiring

How we need to admire and respect the land on which we live

Her book ‘Bindi’ is about climate, wildfires, and healing

And about a girl who loves art, but hates maths

She inspired us all

Even to get an autographed book

But most of all

She made us really think

Really deeply think

About the world around us.

The Writers Festival was exceedingly staggering!

Being in the State Library with the four authors was so inspirational and memorable. My mind was filled with different thoughts as all the authors spoke about why they became an author and what inspired them. Especially when Gabriel Wang spoke about her humorous story about how she and her friend broke into someone’s mansion when they were young. All the authors have influenced me to improve my reading and writing skills for the future.

I would like to thank Mrs Marinelli for the opportunity to attend the Writers Festival.

The Writers Festival

My hands were sweating. I was hot and a kaleidoscope of feelings were forming inside me. The perspiration was rolling down my forehead. This was it! I knew that his lecture would change my life. Eddie Woo was on stage talking and I was there! I could see the most inspiring mathematician and the most inspiring author standing in front of me. It was like music to my ears. So many amazing things entered my head. All eyes were on Eddie Woo. This experience was something that I can’t believe I was able to experience. Without the work of Mrs. Marinelli I wouldn’t have been able to see Eddie Woo in person. It was a dream come true.

On the Second of September

everyone took their seats.

I could feel my heart start to beat,

faster and faster it went

until Katrina Nannestad entered the stage.

I couldn't stay still.

Her book was amazing.

I ended up buying it and had it signed and I haven’t been able to stop reading it since!

The next book I bought was by Gabrielle Wang.

It was about her childhood and her dog Rusty who got lost and never came back.

But I’d say her story about the witch’s house was the most intriguing.

I was extremely inspired after going to the Writers Festival last Friday as all of the authors had made extremely important points about writing. I was especially captivated by Kirli Saunders who talked about inclusiveness and being proud of your own stories, as it is what I strive to do. Her message was very appealing to me, as I was able to make my own personal connections to what she was saying. As she was talking, I felt as if she could fully understand me, even though we hadn’t met yet. As a writer and a reader, I can now use my newfound knowledge to help me improve in these areas.

Writers Festival - Reflection

By Douglas  Yr 5

The most amazing and surprising fact I found out during the Writers Festival was that every author that we listened to weren't good at writing when they were young. Even Eddie Woo wasn’t good at maths when he was young and was now doing Youtube videos about maths.

Some of the stories from the authors were unbelievable, like the one Gabrielle Wang told. At first, I couldn’t believe that she even climbed the gate to go in and discover what was behind the gate. Although Grabrielle Wang had a great and interesting childhood to listen to, the most interesting person to listen to was Eddie Woo as I love maths and he spoke about maths rather than writing which was different to the other authors. It was interesting to learn new things about maths and how it can be related to many other things in the world.

Writers Festival

The Writers Festival was really fun.

It really was a blast.

Out shining was the glowing sun.

I wish it would forever last.

Kirli Saunders, Katrina Nannestad.

They were the complete opposite of bad.

Gabrielle Wang and Eddie Woo.

We might see them again soon.

Next time there might be new authors.

Ready to share their story.

And the glowing sun will shine again.

The rain will stop pouring.

Soon the excitement will rise again,

Autographs and books signed with a pen,

There’´ll be next year, give or take a few days,

Writers will be cheering ´´Hip Hip Hooray!´´

All of the authors were amazing and delivered many phenomenal speeches! Gabrielle Wang stood out to me the most. She was very inspirational and I enjoyed listening to her talking about her astonishing little adventures she had as a child. I especially loved the time when she and her best friend snuck into a massive, old, haunted mansion and thought that the mansion  was the  witch's house. It was very sweet and funny at the same time! She also spoke about her blind dog who was lost, it was very heartbreaking and till this day, I am still wondering what happened to it. Overall it was a fantastic and magnificent experience and I hope in the future we will be able to do it again!
