Student Wellbeing

Presentation Ball

The St John’s Regional College Presentation Ball is an annual event previously run by our Parents and Friends Association (PFA). This year the PFA is not in a position to run the 2019 Presentation Ball.

Our current Year 11 students have been advised of this and we have requested they express their interest in taking part in the Presentation Ball. We have also requested advice as to whether parents or guardians would be able to be a part of a Presentation Ball Committee. A past member of the PFA is willing to be involved in a meeting with the  Committee to help start the process for 2019.

In the unlikely event we get limited student interest or no parental support for the Presentation Ball Committee, we would have to consider the option that the Presentation Ball will not run for our year 11 students in 2019.

The Presentation Ball has been a very successful event for both the College and students for many years and it would be a shame for it not to take place. We are asking that you speak with your children to see if they are interested and consider whether you are also able to help in any way.

Parents and Friends Association

The Parents and Friends Association is looking for new members to help support different activities and initiatives for the students of the College. Currently we have a Board representative but we are looking for parents to take up other roles within the Parents and Friends Association.

We have our first meeting on Tuesday 12 February at 7pm in the Contemporary Learning Centre and all parents are welcome. We look to hold two meetings per term.

Uniform Expectations

Uniform is important for at least four reasons

  • It shows affiliation to the College.
  • It maintains the reputation of our students in the community, maximising their post schooling opportunities.
  • It demonstrates mutual respect.
  • It is a symbol of equality among students.

All students are required to wear the prescribed uniform correctly during school hours, travelling to and from school and on College excursions when required.

General Information

  • The College jumper or Sport shell garment are not to be worn as the outer garment when travelling to and from school.
  • The College blazer is compulsory, and is to be worn to and from College and when on College excursions and for all formal occasions including College assemblies.
  • No garments other than those stated on the uniform list are to be visible. This includes coloured T-Shirts or singlets which are visible through shirts, boxer shorts under dresses/above trousers, and socks beneath or over tights.
  • Shirts must not be visible below the jumper.
  • Makeup, acrylic or coloured nails and coloured lip gloss are not to be worn with the College uniform.
  • Scarves and gloves should be navy blue, dark green or black and may not be worn with the sports uniform.
  • Male students are expected to be clean shaven and well groomed.
  • In Term 4, all students are to be in summer uniform from the first school day after the Melbourne Cup mid-term break.
  • In Term 2, all students are to be in winter uniform from first school day after ANZAC Day.
  • The tie, when worn, must be tightened to fit correctly around the neck (top button fastened).
  • The wearing of the approved College hat by students is recommended for all students whilst outdoors.
  • The PE Uniform is to be worn only during PE lessons (unless otherwise stated) and must be worn for all specified sports related events and activities, including all off campus activities. House Polo Tops are compulsory for all year levels.
  • Students are encouraged to wear sunglasses and sunscreen lotion (at least SPF30+) in outdoor settings.

Hair

  • Hairstyles should be conservative, appropriate to a school environment, neat, tidy, clean and of a natural colour. The overall look and style of hair should be natural. Unusual hairstyles, as determined by the College that are not in keeping with the wearing of school uniform are unacceptable. This includes long fringes hanging over eyes, contrasting patches of colour, mohawks, dreadlocks, shaved heads less than a 'number 2' etc. Boys' faces must be clean shaven.
  • Hair below the shoulders must be tied back in either a ponytail, braid or bun away from the face for health, safety and hygiene reasons at all times.
  • Hair accessories must be discreet, small and in plain school colours (dark navy, dark green or black), gold or silver. Accessories must be functional; not decorative. Failure to comply with the hair regulations may result in a student being required to remain at home until the situation is rectified.

Jewellery

  • Students are not permitted to wear visible make-up or jewellery. Plain sleepers or very small plain silver or gold studs are to be worn only in the lower ear lobe, with no more than one per lobe. Any other visible piercings of any form are not permitted. Visible clear plastic plugs or band-aid coverings are not acceptable.
  • Small religious necklaces are permissible

Attendance

Any notes regarding Early Dismissal, Late, Absences or Extended Absences need to go through Learning Mentors who will adjust our system to show attendance. Students leaving early ideally will have a note signed by a parent or guardian that can be presented to their Learning Mentor.  The student can then be met by a parent at Reception to be signed out at the appropriate time. I would ask that where possible contacting the school during the day to collect a student be limited.

We are currently changing over our daily attendance system and ask you to review closely the SMS messages sent to you notifying you of your child’s absence. Please contact the school administration immediately if you believe there has been an error made in the notification process.
