Unusual Sports with 5-3

In 5-3 we have been researching about unusual sports such as Rubik's cubing, crab racing, extreme ironing, chess boxing and cheese rolling. On Monday the 5th of August, we presented this to the school as part of the Year 2-6 assembly. We all dressed up as our various weird sports, and had a lot of fun through the whole process. Here is a bit more about each of them.

Rubik’s cubing

The Rubik's cube is a puzzle cube with six different colours. Rubik’s cube racing is a race where competitors try to solve the Rubik’s cube in the fastest time. The Rubik’s cube was made by Erno Rubik in 1974.

Crab racing

The rules of crab racing are simple: no banging on the table, no blowing to change a crabs speed, no leaning or pointing since crabs are sensitive to light. The race starts off with all the crabs in a bowl at the middle of a round table the referee takes the bowl off, and the race begins!

Extreme ironing

In extreme ironing, people go to various locations and iron their clothing. It ‘was invented by Tony Haim in England in 1980. If you want to play the sport you will need an ironing board, an iron, a shirt and an extreme location such as a mountaintop or under water.

Chess boxing

Chess boxing is a mix between chess and boxing. The match consists of eleven rounds: six rounds of chess with 1 minute breaks between rounds. If you wish to play you will need boxing gloves which are taken off after every round, and a chess board. To win you need to capture the opponents king, knock them out, or make them forfeit.

Cheese Rolling

Cheese rolling is a dangerous sport where people roll a block of cheese down the hill and run down after it. The first person to get down the hill wins the cheese. However this results in many injuries so play at your own risk. 5-3 want to say a big thanks to the year 2-6's for watching our performance. We hope you enjoyed it & learnt a bit about these wacky sports.  These sports are unusual and a lot of fun. So grab an ironing board and get out there – but be safe!
