Level 4 Newsletter 24th February 2023

Well, it certainly has been another busy fortnight. In the past two weeks, the Year 5 and 6s have been involved in many activities and learning experiences including excursions, incursions, swimming finals and athletics carnivals. Thank you for everyone’s help in preparing their children for these events. Please keep an eye out for dates in the news letter and also on QKR, as we are finding that with the return of extra curricular activities, a number of reminders are having to be sent home for permissions and payments etc.

Enjoy the next two weeks!

 Y Safe Incursion

The Year 5 and 6s participated in a Cyber Safety incursion last week. This is an area that will directly affect our students as they grow up and it was a valuable opportunity for them to discuss issues and concerns that they have around the use of technology. It was also great to see so many parents at the parent session held later in the day.

“It taught me that cyber safety is an essential part of life in a world so focused on technology.” Isaiah Year 6

 House Athletics

What a day we had at the House Athletics! We were so proud of all the students who showed determination, empathy and resilience as they participated throughout the day. Thanks to all the parents helpers who assisted on the day and congratulations to the students for their magnificent efforts! A huge thanks must also go to Clinton Walsh who organised the day and ensured that the students had the opportunity to have a go in a fun and supportive setting.

 Year 5 Excursion

This week, the Year 5s had the privilege of hearing from Holocaust survivor, Viv, at the Jewish Holocaust Centre. After a general information session and activity that highlighted how hard it was for children to hide or blend in during this terrible time, the students were given the opportunity to talk with Viv and ask her questions. We were so proud of the respect, empathy and curiosity shown by the students in their discussion with Viv, and in the way they engaged with this unique experience.

“Viv taught us that it is important to not be a bystander. People who stand up for other people are the heroes.” Wesley Year 5

 NAPLAN

The NAPLAN testing period begins next week. Our session days will begin on Wednesday 15th, and then continue on Thursday 16th, Friday 17th and then Tuesday 21st March. Please remember that the NAPLAN is only a snapshot of your child’s education. In regards to preparing for the day, the classes have been experienced what the tests will look like and what the timing of the tests will be. For preparation at home, please work to ensure that your child isn’t stressed about this time. A good night’s sleep and healthy breakfast is a great way to set them up for the day. 😊

Year 6 Jumpers

The Year 6 jumpers are now available for purchase. If you wish to order a jumper for your child, please go to QKR to complete the order.

 Swimming

A huge congratulations to the members of the swimming team who competed at the Division Swimming Championships. Each swimmer showed great determination and swam to the absolute best of their ability. Congratulations to those who have now progressed to the Region Championships being held on the 24th March. A massive thanks to Clinton Walsh for his tireless efforts in making sure our students get the best opportunities and for ensuring these days run smoothly.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parents now can book an interview session with their child’s teacher. If you are interested in booking a session, head to Sentral to complete the process. Please remember that these are 15 minute discussions and that if you wish to meet via Zoom, please complete the booking process on Sentral and then email the teacher to let them know of your request.
