An Icon & Lots of Colour!

In the Art Studio for 2023, we are enthusiastically finding out about Leonardo Da Vinci! (1452-1519).

Yes, that iconic, quite possibly most talented person of all time: painter, mathematician, inventor, engineer, scientist, sculptor, architect, botanist and writer.

We will be delving into the most recognisable artwork in the world, the Mona Lisa, a painting which could only inspire us to examine self-portraiture.

Leonardo Da Vinci also had a profound understanding of aerodynamics and the concept of flying, with many of his sketches and notes revealing the fundamentals for the development of modern aviation. Why not invent our own flying machines and even attempt to explore creative ways to fly!

Automation was another area of mechanical development Da Vinci researched. So creatively we too can invent machines of wonder!

Through painting, drawing, construction and clay modelling Leonardo will be channelling our artistic senses and influencing our 2023 artwork.

Selfie Gallery – We Need Your Contributions!

We are setting up a ‘Mona Lisa Selfie Galleryon the Art Studio window.

Do you have a selfie with Mona Lisa from the Louvre Museum in Paris? Maybe you could create one of your own? Be part of the exhibition… just send your image to FPS or print it and give it to me! Don’t forget to include the name and date!

In the Art Studio

In the meantime, term one has been concentrating on preparing our Art Folios and Art Journals. We will then be saturated in colour!

Of course, COLOUR MEANS PAINT!

As a result, paint becomes our passion, with colour right beside it.

We will be studying the many classifications of colour and the way artists use it to express themselves.  It is such a captivating element of ART!

So what will we be learning?

  • Foundation:  It is all about the primary and secondary colours.
  • Years 1 & 2: Hot and cold colours dominate.
  • Years 3 & 4: Complementary colours are the focal point.
  • Years 5 & 6:  Refining colour mixing skills creating tones, blends, tints, and shades for colour charts.

Understanding colour and applying it to our practice enables us to approach our work with confidence and skill.
