Focus on Learning

Year 1/2 - Mrs Sharnie Meade

Mathematics:

We have recently been learning all about the different 2D Shapes in 1/2.  We have been exposed to lots of different polygons - squares, rectangles, quarilaterals, pentagons and hexagons.  We also learnt all about how to flip, slide and turn shapes.  Here are some photos of our Mathematics Rotational activities from last week.

This week, and until the end of term, we will be turning our learning to Whole Number.  We are working on representing different numbers in many different ways, counting by ones, tens and hundreds, and some of us are even practising counting into the thousands!  We have lots of fun activities planned for the coming weeks.  Here are some photos from Monday, of us all learning in our groups.  We are lucky to have so many skilled, helpful adults in the room during literacy and numeracy!

Literacy:

Our Reading Groups are in full force this week; our goal is for every child to be read with every day.  During our Literacy Rotations, some students will have guided reading session in groups of 4-5, while others consolidate their skills with independent tasks.

There are three main areas of reading that we target during guided reading sessions:

1. Decoding (reading the actual words on the page accurately),

2. Comprehension (understanding and retelling the text), and

3. Fluency (being able to read in at a good pace, maintaining expression).
