STUDENT LEADERS MEETING

Lola Crosbie-Paul - Sustainability and Environmental Captain

Stella Kiltorp - Vice School Captain

On the 24th of March, the Year 6 Student Leaders had their first meeting. It was very exciting and a new experience for all of us, as it was our first time to have a formal talk together. We got to interact with all the other Student Leaders. We started off the meeting by reading out who would fill the roles of chair, timekeeper, minute taker and Norms Observer for this meeting. To start off we talked about the dates for the next few meetings. Then we moved on to our norms. Our norms are the certain rules we have to follow to have a well structured and quick meeting. We collaborated with our group and collectively made our norms together. These norms are yet to be finalised. We then had to finish early as we had some very long conversations about the norms. After that, our Norms observer, Matilda, gave her opinion on how we worked. She said that we stayed within the time limit well, the time keeping communication wasn’t as good. Renee and Mel said they will help the time keeper work on keeping to our time limit. We look forward to our next meeting in Week 11.

PEER MEDIATORS TRAINING

Ellie Holder & Miles Dowling - Peer Mediator Captains

Hello! This is Miles and Ellie, and we are your Peer Mediator Captains for 2023!

Last week, the Peer mediators began their training with Renee and Mel, who did a great job on leading our training.  Training began by Renee giving an explanation on what peer mediators really are to Wembley, and we then moved on to the standard protocol of addressing and solving problems in the yard that any of our peers may have. If you don’t know what peer mediators are, we are a group of Year Six students who voluntarily go out into the yard to solve problems that our peers may have, as well as help out the yard duty teachers.

During training, we had completed some role plays to give us an understanding about possible scenarios that peer mediators may face in the yard . Afterwards, we learned  the following steps of what to do in the yard when we face problems. Before we finished we had a performance by one of the groups to give us an idea of how it might look in the yard. Renee and Mel did a great job of teaching us, and we would like to give them a huge shout out for organising the entire program.

This week we were out in the yard, helping out students. As people who witnessed the whole thing first hand, the peer mediation program is going great, although we do have a little while to go, which, as you’ll find, is the case with most things in life.

We would like to say thank you to all the peer mediators for their work ethic, and for coming and trying their best.  We would also like to say thanks to Mel as since Renee was away she was very helpful, trying to encourage the peer mediators even though some were unsure.  We would also like to thank all the peer mediators for attending training and volunteering their time at recess and lunch to help in the yard. And thank you to Renee for organising training and the peer mediator program.

CROSS COUNTRY

Luka Coskun and Annabelle Brown - PE Captains

On Friday 31st March, grades from year 3-6 went over to McIvor Reserve to compete in Cross ountry.  The sun was shining and the birds were chirping, it was a glorious  afternoon. Every competitor was trying their hardest as only the top four runners would be going to District Cross Country. The years 3-4 ran a 2km race and the years 5-6 ran a 3km race, many beating their personal records. To sum up the day, everybody had fun and it was a great day had by all. We thank all the people that made the day such a success.
