SUBPOD PILOT AT WEMBLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL
Adriana Jankulovski, alongside our Year 4 and 5 students, have been busy looking at ways to launch a composting system at Wembley Primary School. Our engagement with the company Subpod has meant that they have invited us to be a part of a Pilot Program. Since the launch of our link only last week, we have received over 300 supporters for the initiative, and as a result, we will be receiving a free composting system!!! Thank you to our community for your support.
Composting at Wembley will be led by our Sustainability Captains, Lola Crosbie-Paul and Matilda Ruddick, with the support of Sofia Courtney and a group of Year 5 and Year 4 students.
ONGOING ASSESSMENT - MARKBOOK
By the end of this week, all parents would have received communications about Markbooks being updated on Sentral.
Markbook is our way of reporting student learning and progress to parents in an ongoing way. Each Essential Learning is reported on throughout the semester to ensure that parents are getting a clear picture of their child's academic progress towards the Victorian Curriculum.
To access your child/ren's Markbook, login to the Sentral parent portal via https://wembleyps.sentral.com.au/portal2/#!/login or the Sentral app, click on your child, and then 'Assessments'.
The image below is a parent guide for reading and understanding the language used in Markbook.
This document can also be found on Sentral, in the 'Resources' section.
Many of our English Essential Learning (in the areas of Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening) are spread out to be taught in an ongoing way, throughout the entire year with multiple exposures and chunks of different content that all contribute to the same Essential Learning.
This means that the majority of students within a cohort may be marked as 'Consolidating' throughout part of the year. This is often expected, as students take time to learn and demonstrate new skills.
If you have any questions about your child's marks, their classroom teacher will be able to assist.
ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS AND CURRICULUM OVERVIEWS
Curriculum overviews for parents!
In the past, we have uploaded our school's curriculum documents (Yearly Essential Learning Planners - YELPs) to our website, in the hope of helping parents to clarify the content of our Essential Learnings.
Due to the constant updates to these working documents based on the student learning needs week by week and year level by year level, we have decided to replace the YELPs on the website with a more straightforward concise Curriculum Overview for year level, each term.
Curriculum Overviews will be uploaded to our website during the first few weeks of Term 2 and shared with parents via email. Term overviews will clarify the Essential Skills that students will be exposed to, explaining learning foci week by week.
HARMONY DAY
In Week 9, we celebrated Harmony Week at Wembley Primary School. Students learned about inclusiveness, respect and creating a sense of belonging. They reflected on our diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
The week ended with all students and staff having the opportunity to wear a touch of orange to school on Friday. It was great to see so many students participating, and celebrating our school's values of respect, empathy and inclusion!
