Hands on Learning

As a former student of Mornington Secondary College, I am thrilled to be back as a new team member in the Hands on Learning program. With a background in construction and experience in Inclusion support at a primary school, I am excited to apply my skills and passion for Hands on Learning to create engaging projects for the students.

I have a keen interest in photography and film, which I believe can be incorporated into creative and interactive projects to encourage learning and spark curiosity. What excites me the most about my role is the opportunity to learn alongside the students, collaborate on projects, and inspire a love of learning that will stay with them for years to come.

I am honoured to be part of the Mornington Secondary College community again and look forward to making a positive impact on the students' learning journey.

Inclusion Admin Support

I commenced my new role as the Inclusion education support assistant at Mornington Secondary College this year.  It is an exciting time to be involved with the Inclusion team as we expand the new Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP) process.

My role involves liaising with families and assisting our team members to prepare documents for DIP and Student Support Group meetings.  I am experienced in this role, having assisted another local secondary college to introduce the new DIP process successfully.

My previous roles have also included small group literacy intervention and many years in an allied health role, predominantly in Western Australia.

I look forward to meeting many students and their families of the Mornington secondary college community.

Middle School Update

We have Open Night tonight at the college and we have many students from Year 7, 8 and 9 volunteering to be part of the college program for the evening.  Hopefully, you too might have the chance to drop by and see the exhibits and chat to the staff about curriculum and programs.

Students across all year levels are setting their learning goals and this is taking place in their Connect class. Students then set a target for the area for improvement.

We had a great day of Year 7 sport last week and next week we have Year 8 sport.

I hope you enjoy all the great photos of our students in action.

Wishing you all a lovely long weekend.

Senior School Update

With just four weeks to go in term 1, week 7 has been a busy one in the Senior School. All students have received their progress reports and have been asked to complete their short term goal-setting. Interestingly, research has shown that people who simply write down their goals are 20% more successful in achieving them and that 90% of people who set challenging but achievable goals, performed better. We look forward to working with our Senior School students to achieve their goals.

Year 11 and Year 12 students have all completed at least some of their assessments for each of their subjects and are almost 50% of the way through their VCE units. Assessments can be stressful for students, so we recommend students spend time embedding their understanding of new concepts as they learn them rather than just in the nights before an assessment.

Attendance reports have been run for the month of February and Senior School students with excellent attendance will be recognised at the next year level assembly. The attendance goal for all students to maximise their learning outcomes, is AT LEAST 95% attendance in each subject. Did you know that a student averaging 90% attendance across their schooling, will end up missing over 12 months of learning over their schooling?

Year 10 highlights – We have several Year 10 students helping with Open Night and we’ve recently appointed our year level captains - Carter Nicholson and Ethan Barker. Congratulations to them both on their appointments.

Year 11 highlights – We have several Year 11 students helping with Open Night and we’ve recently appointed our year level captains – Bridie Borthwick, Ethan Lewis & Molly Pierce-Decker. Well done and we wish them all the best with their leadership.

Year 12 highlights – We have a Study Sensei session coming up for all Year 12 VCE ATAR students. VCE VM students are working on the creation of their own website to gain marketing and advertising skills.

Ella Shields, Harry Ramsden, Chelsie Hollingworth, and Freya Shepstone have been appointed as our Year 12 captains. Congratulations to our Year 12 captains on their appointments!

Year 11- Art

Year 11 art making and exhibiting students are exploring various clay materials and techniques, such as slip mould pouring. Students will experiment with a number of art

forms (sculpture, clay, painting, printmaking) and then produce a final artwork using their

chosen art form.

The Resilience Project

There will be a Parent and Carer webinar presentation, Discovering Resilience, (with other schools) on Wednesday 15th March from 6.30pm - 8.00pm (90 mins).

What you can expect

Martin Heppell will be delivering his flagship ‘Discovering Resilience’ presentation to you. Through his high-energy humour and captivating storytelling, Martin will share simple, practical tips we can use everyday to improve our wellbeing.

Why a Parent & Carer presentation?

When building positive mental health in schools, we know the best impact happens when we work together.

The ‘Discovering Resilience’ presentation helps do just that by sharing those same evidence-based strategies being taught in the classroom, so they can be also practised at home and beyond. Attendees will also be reminded of the importance of their own wellbeing - we bring the best versions of ourselves to our family and community, when we make time to look after ourselves.

Parents and Carer will need to register for the webinar using the following link:https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_tWLlDrq3QbmIOzKvO5-SpA

Upon registration, registrants will receive a link to attend the webinar, along with a reminder the day prior.
