International Women's Breakfast - 8th March

There was much to celebrate today on International Women's Day. We started our morning with an International Women's Day Breakfast, which was co-hosted by Killester College and The City of Greater Dandenong. We were honoured to have Elder, Murrundindi, and his granddaughters, current Killester students, Ava, Grace and Matilda lead the Acknowledgement of the Traditional Owners and Welcome to Country.

Our Alumni, Jackie Nugara, was this year's keynote speaker. Jackie experienced her own complex trauma at an early age growing up with extreme domestic violence. Through her own journey of healing, and in her many years as a therapist, Jackie believes her path has been to bring greater healing to her clients and to make a difference by sharing her story. Jackie‘s message is one of hope and healing that despite adversity and obstacles you can still succeed and live a happy life. She is all about being her authentic self, stepping outside of gender stereotypes, and embracing differences to forge a varied and diverse career path.

Jackie credits her time as a student at Killester College and our motto of 'Strength and Kindliness' to help her through difficult times.

We thank Jackie for sharing her story of courage, strength, and resilience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mayor Eden Foster, Dandenong City Council, Springvale and Dandenong Police, WAYSS, Killester College Alumni, Staff, Students, and our guests for coming together and celebrating the achievements of all women with us at our International Women's Day Breakfast.

Here are some pictures of our students embracing equity:

Our students celebrated International Women's Day by welcoming students to school with purple ribbons and enjoying fresh fruits together at recess.
