Year 10 Textiles - 24th February

Students have begun the year with a great deal of patience and creativity. Prior to students commencing their full-scale hoodies, students were required to produce a 1/4 scale hoodie. They drew upon previous skills such as: laying a pattern correctly onto fabric, identifying specific pattern pieces, construction skills, and a range of complex processes. On completion, students were then able to design a logo and/ or print to add to their 1/4 scale hoodie.

VCE Art Creative Practice Excursion - 25th February

On the morning of Saturday 25th February, the VCE Art Creative Practice class attended KickstArt 2023 at the NGV to hear from Top Arts 2022 high-achieving students and the Top Arts curator to help current students gain inspiration and insight into VCE this year.

“After viewing the folios, I feel inspired to put more work into my own folio. I’m excited to take up the advice from the presenters into the year ahead.” ~Natalie

“I found the ideas from each presenter very intriguing. I liked how each of the ideas the students explored in their folio, reflected their personal experience.“~Taegan

After lunch, we attended the Alexander McQueen exhibition at the NGV, to gain inspiration from the curation and presentation of the garments and artworks in the exhibition.

VCE Visual Art - 2nd March

Year 11 and 12 Visual Art Students have just started a four-week program of life drawing classes after school.  This week's poses were dynamic and students chose a wide variety of materials to work with. It was great to see the students' confidence in drawing improve during this time.  The work will be exhibited in the VCE hallway for you to view.

Thank you students for taking the time to continue to build your skills in observational drawing whilst exploring a range of different materials.

Here are some of the drawings from our first session.

VCE VM Fair Share Excursion - 2nd March

The Year 12 VCE VM class went to Fare Share on Thursday the 2nd of March. We got the opportunity to volunteer to help cut food and prepare dishes for the less fortunate. We had to put protective clothing on and then we were given instructions on what to do and they gave visual representations. We then went ahead and were able to do it ourselves. The class was split up into two groups with one cutting chicken and lamb and the other half cutting vegetables and preparing meals. We had the opportunity to interact with the other volunteers during lunch and it was really interesting to learn why they were there. I believe that this was a really enjoyable and reflective experience for our class.

International Women's Day - 8th March

There was much to celebrate today on International Women's Day. We started our morning with an International Women's Da Breakfast, which was co-hosted by Killester College and The City of Greater Dandenong. We were honoured to have Elder, Murrundindi, and his granddaughters, current Killester students, Ava, Grace and Matilda lead the Acknowledgement of the Traditional Owners and Welcome to Country.

Our Alumni, Jackie Nugara, was this year's keynote speaker. Jackie experienced her own complex trauma at an early age growing up with extreme domestic violence. Through her own journey of healing, and in her many years as a therapist, Jackie believes her path has been to bring greater healing to her clients and to make a difference by sharing her story. Jackie‘s message is one of hope and healing that despite adversity and obstacles you can still succeed and live a happy life. She is all about being her authentic self, stepping outside of gender stereotypes, and embracing differences to forge a varied and diverse career path.

Jackie credits her time as a student at Killester College and our motto of 'Strength and Kindliness' to help her through difficult times.

We thank Jackie for sharing her story of courage, strength, and resilience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mayor Eden Foster, Dandenong City Council, Springvale and Dandenong Police, WAYSS, Killester College Alumni, Staff, Students, and our guests for coming together and celebrating the achievements of all women with us at our International Women's Day Breakfast.

Here are some pictures of our students embracing equity:

Our students celebrated International Women's Day by welcoming students to school with purple ribbons and enjoying fresh fruits together at recess.

Project Compassion - 8th March

Our Arts and Celebrations Committee baked and decorated over 100 cupcakes to sell during lunchtime to raise awareness and funds for Caritas, Project Compassion.
