Vaping

There continue to be reports about students vaping here at school.  Vaping is prohibited at schools and all government buildings.  If students are found vaping at school, there will be contact home and appropriate follow up will occur.  Students will also be given a pack of information about the dangers of vaping.

All vapes will be confiscated and parents will need to pick them up if they want them back, we will not be able to give it back to the student, regardless of age, due to our duty of care.

Educating children and young people about smoking and vaping's harmful effects is important for parents, carers, schools, and communities.

Research from the Royal Children’s Hospital shows many parents and carers are not aware of the harmful effects or how their views about smoking and vaping can impact the likelihood of a young person taking up smoking or vaping.

The Department of Education and Training has developed resources to help you learn more about the health risks of smoking and vaping, and some suggestions about how to talk to children and young people about vaping, and where to get support. To access the resources, go to https://www.vic.gov.au/smoking-and-vaping-advice-parents

You can also view this video on smoking and vaping from experts at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne for health advice and tips for starting a conversation with young people.

Hats

Hats must be worn outside; this includes for PE/Sport and break times.  Hats must be a brimmed hat and not have any logos not appropriate for school, such as alcohol, drugs, or any other offensive material.  Students can borrow hats from the AP office if needed and returned when they are finished using them.

Phones

Phones are becoming a problem at school.  All students are to leave their phone in their lockers for the duration of the school day.  If they are seen with it at school the students will be asked to give it to the teacher or take it to the front office for the rest of the day.  Repeated incidences of using a phone while it is the school day will involve contact home and further follow up.

School values

During term 4 last year we started work on reviewing the school values.  This was stalled due to other commitments through that term.  We would like to get this review up and going again and involve all our new families and students.  An email with a survey link will be sent out soon.  Your time and input are much appreciated.
