School drop offs - overtaking
It has been drawn to our attention that some cars have been cutting through onto the side of oncoming traffic to go around the cars that have stopped to drop off students.
There have also been many occasions whereby cars that have stopped with their indicator on to turn into a parking spot, have lost their spot to the car behind that has sped around on the wrong side of the road to take the parking space before the car currently occupying the space has reversed out.
While we understand that everyone is pressured by time, we kindly remind parents to drive with caution and awareness for the safety of those around us. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
Oakleigh Greek Dance Academy
Whitlam Institute 'What matters writing comp
Inspired by Gough Whitlam's commitment to involving young people in shaping Australia's future, the What Matters? writing competition is currently open to school students in years 5 to 12 from Australia. Responding to the simple question 'what matters?', entrants are free to express their views on any matter they care about.
This is the perfect opportunity to empower students to raise their voices on issues that are important to them and know that their perspectives are valuable, no matter their age, background or viewpoint. Entries can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry or prose of up to 600 words, and submitted online at What Matters? Writing Competition.
Entries close on Friday, 5 May 2023
Prizes
Students in Years 5-12 could win some amazing prizes for themselves and their schools. This includes virtual author visits, writing workshops, the opportunity to shadow political speechwriters and journalists, books and opportunities for your school, and of course, the major cash prize of $1500.

Follow the safe road crossing procedure – STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK.

Financial Assistance - Information for parents
Every Victorian child should have access to the world of learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps ensure that no student will miss out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities. It is part of making Victoria the Education State and the Government’s commitment to breaking the link between a student’s background and their outcomes.
CAMPS, SPORTS & EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF)
School camps provide children with inspiring experiences in the great outdoors. Excursions encourage a deeper understanding of how the world works while sports teach teamwork, discipline and leadership. All are a part of a healthy curriculum.
CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.
If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. A special consideration category also exists for asylum seeker and refugee families. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.
The annual CSEF amount per student is:
- $125 for primary school students
- $225 for secondary school students
HOW TO APPLY
New applicants should contact the school office to obtain a CSEF application form or download from the website below. You can also find a copy of the application form attached below.
If you applied for CSEF at your child's school last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.
You only need to complete an application form if any of the following changes have occurred:
- new student enrolments; your child has started or changed schools this year.
- changed family circumstances; such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing this year
