Grade 4 M See-Saw Writing

Last week at our assembly Annie and Matisse shared their See-Saw writing with everyone which was terrific, although a little nerve wracking.  After reading the book "Fortunately" by Remy Charlip the students wrote their own "Fortunately/Unfortunately" stories, we hope you enjoy them.

Best Dog in the World   by Gus

Today I got a new pet dog. His name is Spike and he is really fluffy.

Fortunately, I love fluffy dogs.

Unfortunately, they get fur everywhere.

Fortunately, Spike is very playful and jumps all over me.

Unfortunately, I have scratches on my arms to prove it.

Fortunately, we went to dog training today which was great.

Unfortunately, Spike got too excited and caused all of the dogs to bark so we got kicked out.

Fortunately, we went for a walk afterwards which is good for us.

Unfortunately, I was super tired and so was Spike.

Fortunately, Spike is loyal to me.

Unfortunately, whenever someone walks by us he wants to protect me and starts barking.

Today I walked by a big scary dog and he tried to bite me but luckily Spike chased the big dog away.

Fortunately for me, I have the best dog in the world.

Ruby by Mattisse

Hi, I’m Mattisse and this is my dog Ruby.

It’s great that she sleeps in my bed at night,

But it’s not that great when she gives me wet kisses in the mornings.

It’s great to have a furry friend to play with all day,

But it’s not that great to have someone chasing after you when you are going to the toilet.

It’s great to have a fuzzy and adorable friend to play with,

But it’s not that great to have Ruby barking loudly when I’m in the study with my dad, trying to stay focused talking with my teacher.

It’s great to have another loving family member,

But it’s not that great when she does stinky poops in the back yard.

It’s great for her to have such a funny personality.

But it’s not that great to have a dog with a theft background due to sock stealing.

But it is great to always have someone by your side.

MY DOG BEN by Henry

Fortunately, having a dog means that I get lots of exercise because he needs a walk every day.

Unfortunately, that means I’m out walking in all kinds of weather, even when I can’t be bothered.

Fortunately, he’s good company, especially during this time of quarantine.

Unfortunately, it means I don’t get any alone time as he follows me everywhere.

Fortunately, he’s soft and fluffy. I like it when he sleeps with me.

Unfortunately, he tries to lick my face while I’m trying to sleep. Yuck!

Fortunately, he’s great fun to play outside with. We play fetch and run around.

Unfortunately, he poos on the lawn and sometimes I step in it.

Fortunately, we get to meet other dogs when I take him to the park.

Unfortunately, he brings his wet, muddy feet inside and dirties the floor and cushions.

Fortunately, he is easy to train and when we say “Get on your bed!” he always does.

Unfortunately, he steals our socks and buries them in the backyard.

Fortunately, he’s a happy and relaxed dog and we love him. He's a great part of our family.

School Day Chaos by Nathan

Being a nine-year-old kid can have its ups and downs.

Fortunately, I woke up early this morning so I wouldn't be late again.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t in the mood for a boring, routine school day.

Fortunately, my day begins with music, which can be fun.

Unfortunately, I arrived to discover my music teacher had mutated into a gleeful dancing monkey.

Fortunately, the dancing monkey had exceptional taste in music and we started a wacky dance party.

Unfortunately, the amazing music attracted numerous kinds of dancing animals.

Fortunately, all the kids in my class loved animals, especially the dancing kind.

Unfortunately, all the other animals turned out to be teachers at our school.

Fortunately, the newly transformed teachers liked being dancing animals.

Unfortunately, the rowdy roaring and the heavy stomping of the dancing lions, bears and elephants attracted a furious principal.

Fortunately, the dancing monkey music teacher and her animal teaching friends could still speak.

Unfortunately, they explained to the principal that they were victims of a magical wish for chaos and excitement at school today.

Fortunately, they knew the wish would wear off by the end of music class.

Unfortunately, the principal planned to punish the reckless wish maker.

Fortunately, no-one ever figured out that the wish had been mine.

 My Favourite Sport. By Tom

It’s Friday night and I’m on my way to play cricket.

Cricket is my all-time favourite sport and I am so excited. That’s good!

Suddenly the sky turns black and thunder rolls in. Big drops of rain start to fall from the sky which is devastating because we can’t take our positions on the field. That’s bad!

Mercifully the rain stops so we can start to play. That’s good!

Unfortunately, we are playing against great opposition and they are highly skilled. That’s bad!

Thankfully, my team and I are good with the bat and we are batting first.  That’s good!

Sadly, some of my team were injured in a fight at school so they aren't able to play. That’s bad!

Happily, I am still able to see and talk to some of my friends while waiting to bat. That’s good!

Unfortunately, my teammate called no to a run and I didn't make it back to my crease. Out for a duck! That’s bad!

Luckily my team and I won the match and remained undefeated. That’s good!

Home Learning 2.0 by Annie

It is back to learning at home for everyone in Melbourne.

I can wear my robe and don’t need to walk or drive to school. That’s good!

But my parents make me wear my uniform under my robe. That’s bad!

Using the computer to complete my work helps me improve my typing ability! That’s good!

The work on some days seems to get harder and harder and takes a lot longer to complete. That’s bad!

No more cold or boring lunches for me! My Mum and I make all sorts of yummy lunches, like soup or toasted ham and cheese sandwiches. That’s good!

Only seeing my friends on Webex meetings make me sad. That’s bad!

My parents can offer suggestions to help me complete my work. That’s good!

But with two brothers also learning from home I usually have to wait and wait and WAIT for them to come and help. That’s bad!

If I really work hard I sometimes finish early. That’s good!

My brothers usually finish earlier than me. That’s bad!

Some days, for working so hard, my family walk to 7/11 and buy a Slurpee as a special treat! That’s good!

Having an older brother, it’s super! By Finn R

It’s super having an older brother who can show me how to juggle with footballs.

It’s terrible having an older brother who teases me about my size.

It’s super having an older brother who plays basketball with me.

It’s terrible having an older brother who repeatedly does things to annoy me, like bouncing a basketball next to me while I’m trying to read.

It’s super having an older brother who can drive and take me out for dumplings.

It’s terrible having an older brother who I have to share my lollies with.

It’s super having an older brother who buys us chocolates or ice cream or even McDonalds!

It’s terrible having an older brother who doesn’t let me play PS games with him and his friends.

It’s super having an older brother who can give me advice and listen to my imaginative stories.

It’s terrible having an older brother who thinks it's funny when he hurts me.

It’s super having an older brother who I can share the family chores with.

It’s REALLY super to only pack the dishwasher every second night!

LEGO by Jude

You are only limited by your imagination when you are building with lego? That's good!

The more detail you put into your creation though the more easily they break? That's bad!

But never fear the creations are easily repaired. That’s good!

Some pieces end up lost, eaten by the dog or sucked into the vacuum by a house proud mum. Thats bad!

You can build worlds with friends. That's good!

But the lego sets are expensive to buy. That’s bad!

Awesome sets have been made from my favourite movies. That’s good!

Sometimes when you play with lego mini figures their legs and arms break. That’s bad!

My family will often spend time together doing lego challenges. That's good!

MY SPECIAL BIRTHDAY by Demiana

It was the10th of May. I was so excited. It was my birthday and I was turning ten! It was a big milestone.

Unfortunately, it was during lockdown so I didn’t get to have a party with my family and friends.

Fortunately, I have great friends and a loving family who organised a lot of small surprises for me, like a gift delivery, a zoom meeting and balloons at home. I felt special.

Unfortunately, the restaurants were closed so we had to stay home and not go out for a birthday dinner.

Fortunately, it allowed me to have a good time with my parents and younger brother.

Unfortunately, because the post wasn’t working in France, I didn’t receive a parcel from my grandparents.

Fortunately, I was able to talk to all my family online or on the phone and had lots of fun playing games with my friends on the Zoom meeting.

Thank you Grade 4 for wonderful writing.
