In The Art Room
Week 3, Term 3
In the Art Room.
Foundation
There's nothing like the anticipation of a celebration!
Celebrating 100 days of learning is just around the corner for our Foundation students!
We have been having fun making playdough, playing with playdough and practising our sculpture skills. Look at this gallery of colourful playdough creations! I think the cupcakes look good enough to eat!
Grade 5 and 6 - Hot Air Balloons Over the City
Grade 5 and 6 students have started a new unit looking at Architecture. For our first activity we looked at recreating a cityscape and explored scale. I love the extra details on the buildings and patterns on the balloons. I am proud of the student's attempts at creating the illusion of perspective! To create a contrast, students scavenged for interesting paper for their hot air balloons.
The students were also asked to reflect on the advantages and disadvantages of City v Country Living.
HOT AIR BALLOONS OVER THE CITY
REFLECTIONS
by Lucas Brooks
ADVANTAGES | DISADVANTAGES | |
LIVING IN THE CITY | Close to lots of shopping centres
Closer to lots of jobs and plenty of choice of schools
Good freeways and plenty of taxis and public transport
You can live near your family more easily
More hospitals and libraries and local facilities in every town or the next town nearby
Lots of better health and support services for people who need it, for example elderly, disabled, premature babies without a long stay away from home | Housing costs more near the city
There is lots of smog and congestion in the city
The city is a lot more public. This could be a good or a bad thing depending on your beliefs and situation. |
LIVING IN THE COUNTRY | Lots of space and fresh air
Housing and land is cheaper
Roads are not so busy
The countryside is beautiful
You can keep lots of animals and run around and make lots of noise as your neighbours are further away! | Less jobs or variety of jobs are available
Less choice of schools for education
There isn't so much public transport and longer distances to travel to get to a bigger town
Things might cost more because they have to be transported further to the shops there and you don't have as many shops.
You might need to move away from home young if you want to go to university as they are usually closer to the city |
