Action For Happiness

Action for Happiness is a movement of people committed to building a happier and more caring society. They want to see a fundamentally different way of life - where people care less about what they can get just for themselves and more about the happiness of others. Each month Action For Happiness creates and publishes a monthly calendar. This months calendar is headed Altruism August.

Altruism is vital for the human race to survive and thrive; and each of our lives is supported by countless kind acts from other people. Yet in our world today, so much is directing us to think only about ourselves - and we often forget the happiness that comes by caring for others. We want to change that. This August Action for Happiness asking everyone to take one kind act per day. Let's create a wave of kindness to spread around the world.

Action For Happiness have an app. The app is like having a little personal action coach in your pocket who...:

* give you friendly 'nudges' with an action idea each day?

* sends you inspiring messages to give you a boost

* helps you connect & share ideas with like-minded people

Flourishing Families

Flourishing Families is a series of 4 parent sessions, with 3 sessions left, which allow families within our Maroondah community to explore the key principles of Positive Education, a pilot initiative adopted by all schools  in Maroondah. Our staff and students across our schools (Croydon Hills PS, Kalinda PS, Mullum PS, Warranwood PS, Yarra Road PS) continue to explore, practice and embed key concepts of Positive Education and we

would like to share this common language of wellbeing. Throughout these sessions

we aim to create an awareness of how Character Strengths, Mindsets, Positive

Emotions and Positive Relationships can help us thrive and flourish individually and

collectively.

We have a wonderful opportunity for you, as parents, to learn more about Positive

Education and how you can continue to enhance your own wellbeing, as well as

support the wellbeing of your children, at home, at school and within the wider

community. These sessions will be hosted by Edwina Ricci, the Project Manager for

the Maroondah Positive Education Network.

Flourishing Families sessions are occurring on the following dates from 7.30 - 9pm:

Thursday August 13th

Thursday August 27th

Thursday September 11th

To get your free tickets click this link. If you were unable to attend last Thursdays session you can still attend the rest of the sessions.

One take away from the session is, when you are sitting with your family at the end of the day ask each person to reflect on what has gone well for them throughout that day. It gives each person the opportunity to reflect on the good that has occurred and an opportunity to be grateful for these.

It may be the dinner that was made that night, completing school work, the sun was shining, the calm household, that you spoke to a friend or you drink a yummy cup of hot chocolate. Try to do this most evenings and I am sure it will get easier to think of things. It's a lovely way to conclude a day.

Kindness Corner

The staff at Mullum Primary School were lucky to recently be on the receiving end of such generosity and kindness as we received some delicious delicacies from Dustin Halse (Member for Ringwood) for the work we are doing during this incredibly challenging and difficult time. These definitely lifted the spirits of many staff.

Any act of kindness never goes astray within our families or community. What act of kindness have you performed today?

If you know of an act of kindness please contact Emily.murcott@education.vic.gov.au as I would love to share them with our Mullum Community.

How is Covid-19 affecting you ?

Maroondah council is currently seeking feedback from the Maroondah community on how COVID -19 is affecting you and your family. The information received will help to better understand the impacts (both positive and negative), needs, concerns and aspirations of the Maroondah community in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gathering this information and working directly with the community will assist in identifying key priorities that will help drive and shape our road to recovery. This will ensure that the supports and services that are required as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic meet the needs of our community.

Council have developed a short survey that will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

The survey is available:

  • online by visiting https://yoursay.maroondah.vic.gov.au/
  • Hard copy by contacting our customer service team on 1300 88 22 33 or 9298 4598. A reply-paid envelope will be provided with the survey.
