Return to remote learning

We are thrilled with the engagement of our students and their families in this return to remote learning.  We know that the new restrictions, the ongoing nature of remote learning and, for some families, managing their own work  commitments, is an ongoing daily challenge.  We want to thank everyone for doing their best for our community and for being kind to yourself and others, it is much appreciated.

Our staff have worked hard to reduce the pressure to submit work samples and I know from parent feedback that this has been appreciated.  We continue to learn new ways to communicate and engage students in their learning and are very keen to ensure everyone stays the course until we can return to school.

Remote learning activities this week

Wow!  Have our students been busy.  I have added separate pages to the newsletter to accommodate some of the students work samples for writing and check out the work in the Physical Education and Art classes. Playdoh making and building, cow drawings and labeling in Foundation, amazing hot air balloons over Melbourne from our Grade 5/6 students, terrific see-saw writing from Grade 4.  Look out for your some of this work at our assembly tomorrow.

Whole school assembly/coffee and chat

Tomorrow we will run a whole school assembly for all students and families at home.  A Compass notice with codes has gone out to everyone today, we hope you can join us.  Following the assembly there will be another Coffee and Chat session with parents if you would like to grab a drink and join us for an informal chat, a chance to ask questions, seek answers and hear from other families.

Building work continue

Over the last week we have seen the retaining wall rise up out of the ground right across the rear of the school property.  This is the foundational work for new garden beds, access ramp and rectifying the landslip that was occurring at the rear of the school.

On Wednesday this week, and despite all the interruptions with moving to Stage 4 restrictions, our new school entered the factory and work has commenced on the frame of the new Learning Center.  Although it does not look much at the moment, it was a momentous day for our school, and just a little flutter of excitement.  Everything is on track to bring the new building onsite at the end of this month, with final connections and fittings being made in the beginning of September.  All classrooms will be operational from the beginning of Term 4.

Foundation 2021

Tomorrow, Friday 7 August is the date when our 2021 Foundation enrolments are due. Many of our new families have not been able to tour the school and joined us for virtual information sessions.  We look forward to welcoming these families to Mullum Primary School as soon as we are able.  Tentative work has been undertaken to plan transition programs for later in the year, fingers crossed these can go ahead.

Camp Australia - During Stage 4 Restrictions

I have been advised by Camp Australia that they will continue to operate their service during Stage 4 restrictions for families that are working in permitted industries.

From 11:59pm on Wednesday, 5th August, families will need to obtain one of two permits, signed by their employer, in order to attend Outside School Hours Care:

  • If required to attend work onsite, they will need a Permitted Worker Permit (including childcare).
  • If working from home, and needing access to childcare, they will need an Access to Onsite Childcare/Kindergarten Permit.

Flourishing Families

At the end of July the Maroondah Network of Schools (local primary schools - Croydon Hills, Kalinda, Warranwood and Yarra Road)  joined together for our first Flourishing Families parenting session.  Across all five schools there were close to one hundred families, local councillors and Maroondah City Council staff,  that joined in the session led by Edwina Ricci.  If you were not able to join us on that night, it is not too late to join via Eventbrite.  Check the link in the flyer below and join us for the next session on Thursday 13 August.
