KJ

In Religion KJ has been learning about Abraham and Sarah (also spelt Sarai). They are enjoying cutting out pictures and colouring them in. They have had trouble understanding some of the stories but they have discovered some of the things that Abraham and Sarah have done. They are using the habits of mind in their learning. They have persisted to complete their work as best as they can and have been striving for accuracy when they are cutting out pictures.

KM

“I love learning about Abraham and Sarah (also spelt Sarai)”- Mia and Sophie. In KM they have been learning about their belief in God. When doing this they learnt about Abraham and Sarah. Mia and Sophie’s favourite thing to do in religion is draw and colour in images of Abraham and Sarah. One of their great discoveries that was made in Kindergarten is that Sarah had a baby when she was old. When doing religion a habit of mind that can be used is striving for accuracy when cutting out images. It can be difficult to cut exactly on the black outline. A wondering that KM has is why Sarah and Abraham were so old when they became parents. A couple of other fun subjects KM have been participating in are soccer for sport, maths groups and art with Mrs Birac.

Overall, week three was a fun, exciting and informative week.

Year 1

1J

1J is learning all about the wonderful kingdom of God, And how it is a very special place to us. Curtis and Neve love hearing all the scriptures especially the one with the treasure and pearls. At first they did not know what a scripture was but they persisted and ended figuring out what a scripture is. A big wonder for them was wondering what the kingdom of God is. But as they tuned into their teacher, Mrs D, they realised how the kingdom of God is very sacred and special.

1M

“In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen”

This week in religion 1M have been learning about the Parable of the Yeast. When they were learning about this they had to use the habit of mind remaining open to continuous learning in order to be able to take in all the new information that they were learning. The highlight of Religion this week for 1M would have to be watching the teachers make bread which helped them to understand the Parable. At the moment Malkie and Elosie said that they love Religion because they get to learn about the history of Jesus and how he  inspires them to become a better person. Year 1 had a great week of learning and they are excited about what is still to come.

Year 2

2J

Year 2 is learning how to reflect God’s goodness. They are enjoying this unit especially acting out the scripture story ‘Jesus heals the leper’. One of the challenges was trying to remember their lines. They have enjoyed using the habit of mind persistence as they have had to keep trying to act out the story. They have discovered how Zacchaeus betrayed Jesus and how they can be more like Jesus in showing forgiveness… this can be a challenge for all of us at times!

2M

In 2M we have been learning about Jesus when he healed the leper and the new commandment to ‘’love your neighbours as I have loved you.’’ They had to draw pictures describing what they wrote.

“I loved learning about Religious Education because it’s my favourite subject. It is really interesting what Jesus did to make people smile. I loved how Jesus said to love your neighbours as I have loved you because it motivates me to be more like him.”  Sahara and Rosalind

The challenges were describing how Jesus showed love for everyone and drawing a picture to show the story and also seeing Jesus heal the leper and describing how he did it and drawing how he healed them.

I wondered how did everyone know that Jesus loved them? I was wondering how Jesus did all the amazing things he did like feed 5000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 small fish?

A Habit of Mind we have been using is ‘Striving for Accuracy’  when drawing my pictures to match the story. One H.O.M I used was ‘Striving for Accuracy’ when drawing a picture matching the story line.  Sahara and Rosalind

Year 3

3J

In a very rainy Week 3, 3J have been learning about the Adam and Eve story during Religious Education. They had a major focus learning about what sins are and how we commit different sins. Students have enjoyed learning about this topic, doing worksheets, having discussions and writing in their RE books. One of the questions that students were asked to wonder about was ‘Why did Adam and Eve disobey the Lord?’ The students found it challenging to understand the story of Adam and Eve at first, but now they have a deeper understanding. One of the Habits of Mind students are using is persistence by sticking at their learning even when it is challenging.

3M

What has the spectacular 3M been learning in Term 3? Interviewee; Evan, has the answers. 3M has been learning about the consequences of making good and bad choices. They have been applying the Habit of Mind, Striving for Accuracy while attempting to show more descriptive language in his writing. Something new that 3J has learned is that all choices have consequences. It can be either bad or good. Finding definitions of words has proven a challenge for 3M but they feel they are up to the task. Let's see what responsible choices Evan has been making in his book… and uniform. Wow!

Year 4

In Year 4 for Religious Education, they have been learning about significant times in Mary, the Mother of God's life and acting them out in a play. They were especially enjoying the acting part of this unit being able to think and act as if they were a part of that time. Sia and Sam were so fascinated in the story’s and  they are very keen to find out more inspirational Mary stories. The habits of minds they had to use we’re thinking flexible when they were in a group of all boys they had to think flexible by changing the voice and tone to fit Mary’s.

Year 5

They used Habits of Mind such as striving for accuracy and persisting when working on the key learning areas for the tasks. They also learned a song about the Holy Spirit called ‘Come O Holy Spirit’. They said learning about the Holy Spirit was important because they will receive the sacrament of Confirmation next year.
