From the Senior Sports Master
As you will all be aware from Mr Couani’s communications, the Independent Sporting Association (ISA) on Monday decided to abandon the remainder of the ISA Winter season due to the new COVID-19 restrictions put in place by the NSW Government. The ISA decision was preceded by the Combined Associated Schools (CAS) decision to do the same. Both Associations were joined by the AAGPS on Tuesday. All concluded that continued Inter-school sport under the new restrictions was not viable.
Therefore, in order to fill the vacuum left by the cancellation of our external sports competitions the College has taken this week to convene Internal Competitions in Football, Rugby, Tennis and Athletics. These competitions are a compulsory part of the remainder of the Winter season and aim to provide our Winter sportsmen with a more fitting conclusion to their season.
The competitions will take the place of mid-week training sessions, with the exception of Tennis where we will run a Saturday Divisional Championship in Week 7. All details can be found in the separate Sports sections below.
As we conclude the Winter season, preparations are under way for the Summer season. Please encourage your sons to stay abreast of notices with regard to Summer sport and get registrations in as soon as possible once they open.
Mr Matt Stearn - Senior Sports Master

Winter Squash
SPX representative Squash competition concluded last weekend with outstanding results for our inaugural winter season.
Elliot Inman (Yr 12) finished third in Division One after being undefeated after his narrow 2-3 round one match.
Gilbert Davie (Yr 12) and Harry Clayton (Yr 12) played out the grand final of Division 3 in fine style, nothing could separate the two competitors, the match going to Harry in a tightly contested five setter.
Other winners were: Ashley Johnson (Yr 11), Darcy Keenlyside (Yr 9) who placed third in his division, Oliver Mullen (Yr 9), Lachlan Giang (Yr 9) and Benjamin Buono (Yr 7) who also finished third in his division.
Congratulations to all SPX squash representatives, I hope they have enjoyed their inaugural winter season. All players wishing to play representative squash in the summer season should be alert to the gradings coming soon.
Mr Justin Varjavandi - Squash Convenor
Debating
Last Friday was our final debate against Loreto Normanhurst. All teams supported the flow of the evening with grace and humour. Our 12A, 10B, 7B and 7A teams were successful on the night. There will be a Finals event but this is yet to be organised. Once information comes to me from the CSDA the students will be informed. Next week I will include photos of our amazing undefeated 12A and 7B teams who were presented to the virtual school assembly will be published so watch this space.
