As we celebrate Semester 1 learning achievement across Year 7 – 10 this term, our best wishes and prayers go to our Year 12 students including our Year 11 Maths accelerants who sit their HSC Trials this week and next. The Catholic School’s Trial Exams have been delayed by two weeks to accommodate learning time lost during the Term 1 – 2 remote learning.
Year 11 Preliminary HSC Exams will take place in Weeks 9 and 10 of Term so that Year 11 students can begin their HSC studies in Term 4.
We look forward to seeing the work of our Student Wellbeing Teams coming to fruition on Friday 11 September. Currently with our Year 12 Team on Trial exams our Year 11 and 10 Leaders are stepping up to carry the mantle of preparation. If anyone has a contact of potential guest speakers the student leaders could access online and record for assembly please contact sbrannan@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au
Our student leaders for 2021 will commence the Speechcraft Personal Presentation Course sponsored by the SPX Old Boys Association next Friday 28 August 3.30 pm - 4.30 pm at Chatswood with follow up sessions on Friday afternoon, 25 September, during the holidays and into Term 4. The highly commended presentations of our 2020 leaders under duress this year have set a great standard to aspire to.

In what has been a stressful year for many in our communities, we are constantly reminded that while many of our young men are coping in their own ways and showing significant resilience, there will also be some who are finding this time of uneasiness around the COVID-19 epidemic, other stresses and senses of loss or anxiety raising to the point where they can benefit from support. To this end our Pastoral Care Teachers, Year Coordinators and indeed all staff, including our Counselling team, are available to support your sons.
While there is no normal or typical way to respond to stresses of this nature, please look out for any concerning changes of behaviour beyond the parameters of the grieving processes. Being prepared to offer support, patience and time to listen openly, and allowing them to express their feelings and emotions can be helpful for our young men. Encourage help seeking behaviours from your son and his peers to yourself, the school staff above, or any of the external organisations below who are only a phone call away:
