Hello, from our students and teachers.

News from Ms Kennedy's 3/4's.

Literacy.

In writing over the past couple of weeks we have been working on Personal Narratives. Personal narratives are narratives written in first person about an experience that we can recall clearly.

In a personal narrative a writer needs to include descriptive language and details about what happened so that the reader can create an image in their mind. Using the right vocabulary, we can let the reader know what we are thinking and how we are feeling.

Here are a few of our narratives,

Numeracy

In maths we have been working with money. We have been representing amounts in various ways, for example making $2.00 in the least number of coins. We have solved money problems involving the operations of addition, multiplication, division and subtractions. We have worked out the cost of a selection of items and calculated the change required after our purchase.  Our measurement topic over the past week has been volume and capacity. Volume is the measure of the capacity that an object holds. For example, if a cup can hold 100 ml of water up to the brim, its volume is said to be 100 ml. Volume can also be defined as the amount of space occupied by a 3-dimensional object.

We have been using blocks to make and calculate the volume of 3D objects.

Do you know what the volume of a Rubik's Cube is?

Can you work out how many cubes are in this 3D shape?
