Middle School Ethics Olympiad

On Wednesday, 9 November we had two teams of Year 8 and 9 boys who participated, via Zoom, in the Middle School Ethics Olympiad. The boys competed against local and Hong Kong teams.

Topics discussed included: citizenship status at birth; the risks of nuclear energy production; paralympic pay parity; Jaws - who’s responsible?, the social network – is it bullying?

Both teams did well and justified their responses using a range of Ethics Theories.  Our Orange Team just missed out on a medal, while our Lime Team had an honourable mention and were considered the most improved over the heats. As both teams were new to the competition, this feedback was very pleasing.

The boys had a great time and are excited about competing again next year.

2022 Italian Cuisine Week

This week to celebrate ‘The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World’ the Year 8s spent a lesson cooking with Prof. Knapman. A big part of language study is looking at the culture, and without a doubt, food and cooking is an integral part of Italian culture. The boys prepared two sauces under the guidance of Prof. Knapman: Carbonara and Arrabbiata. They then shared a meal together and enjoyed the fruits of their labour.
