2022 Italian Cuisine Week

Last Friday students from Year 6 were immersed in a cultural pasta making lesson led by special guest Mrs Fulvia Valvasori. The Year 6’s were taught how to make homemade pasta step by step and we hope they use their newfound skills in the kitchen at home. Thank you to Mrs Valvasori for sharing her recipe and expertise with our students.

Evening of Eminence

On Thursday evening the Year 6 GATE boys presented some very creative learning centres on an eminent person in history to family members and staff.  The boy’s had very engaging and well-practised speeches. Thank you Ms Ricki Boe for guiding and supporting the boys in this wonderful culmination of their research.

Golden Honour and TOBA Assembly

The final Golden Honour and TOBA Assembly for the year took place today. Congratulations to all the recipients of awards. The continued presence and connection between the Old Boys through TOBA has helped to build the strong “Men for Others’” culture that we have in our Junior School.

Sport

Yesterday was our second last fixture for the year. Well done to all the boys who have continued to do their best and be great ambassadors for the school. Our Year 4 boys also had the opportunity for some fun competition with Aquinas in their much-anticipated Cricket Carnival.  Well done boys.

The final sporting fixture of the year will be held next week. It has been a successful year on the sporting field as the boys have shown improvement as the season has progressed. Thank you to all coaches, Mr Thompson and Mr Le Tessier for their organisation, parents for your support and the boys for the enthusiastic way they engage in the weekly sporting program.

Prefects Corner

By Jacob 6 B, and Joel 6 W

This week has been packed with lots of things to do and see. For example, Orientation Day, Prefect speeches, Evening of Eminence, Sport Vs Aquinas and our final Golden Honour assembly. It has been a lot for the boys but it’s the end of the week, so they are hyped for the weekend.

On Monday, we had Orientation Day for Year 7. Including us, lots of kids from other schools got to participate in a tour and taste of the High School as we progress from the Junior School. It was all day and we were put into seven groups, all named by colours. We did about six activities each and all of them were very interesting and full of information. All the boys had such a great time.

On Tuesday, the whole Junior School attended the Year 5 Prefect speeches. All the boys participating were very brave to stand up on stage and read their wonderful speeches. After the speeches, the boys then had the opportunity to choose six boys who we thought were worthy to become a Student Leader

On Thursday, the Year 6 GATE boys participated in the Evening of Eminence. The Evening of Eminence is where the boys chose a specific person to write about and pretend to be them for the night. Every single boy did a wonderful job, and the night was very entertaining.

We played against Aquinas for Sport on Thursday, however it was bucketing and we couldn’t play for most of our games. Even though of this dilemma, the boys played valiantly.

On Friday is our final Golden Honour/TOBA assembly for the year. The TOBA winner is still anonymous but I’m sure they deserve it. Also, the teachers get to read out their honour cards to the boys as a golden honour is very special and has a lot of meaning in it.
