Principal

Last weeks

We are now in the last few weeks of the school year. It has been wonderful that we have been able to have a year without periods of remote learning, but I think it is fair to write that it has taken everyone time to resume the rhythm of working continuously in a face-to-face mode of learning.

However, I would naïve to think that we have returned to the pre-COVID status quo of school life. In fact, I think it would be irresponsible of us all to simply try to fully return to what we may have done previously. The last two years have caused us all to think in new and often in cases better ways about not just in our approach to learning and teaching, but also how we operate day to day, plan activities, communicate, and particularly how we relate to each other. From my experience this year, we have become more open to being aware of the feelings and mental health of others and are continuously improving how we ensure everyone feels safe, welcome, and included.

Accordingly, I want to thank everyone – students, staff, and families - for their efforts and patience as we all establish the “new normal”.

Year 10 and 11 Formals

Last night our Year 10s gathered in Pioneer Hall for a night of dancing and this evening our Year 11 students will be here for their Term 0 Formal. Thursday was from my observation and all other accounts a most enjoyable night and there is little doubt that tonight will be enjoyed by all in attendance.

These evenings do not happen without considerable work being undertaken in the background. Accordingly, thank you to the Middle School and Senior School Wellbeing teams for all their work promoting and establishing expectations for these events. Thank you as well to all the staff who attended on Thursday in support of colleagues and our students and I thank you in advance for those assisting with supervision this evening. Additionally, thank you to our maintenance and administration teams for their contributions.

Finally, on behalf of the students, the Wellbeing Teams, and myself a big thank you to Carly Kitchingman for all her organisation. These evenings would not have been as successful as they have and will be without her enormous contribution including organising the DJ and photographer, supplying and preparation of drinks and food, set-up and decorating the hall, and an array of administrative requirements. Your work is very much appreciated.

AJASS Leadership Forum

On Monday this week Nicole Dudman and Scott Blencowe accompanied our College Captains for 2023 to the AJASS Leadership Forum at MacKillop College, Werribee. Feedback from students and staff is that it was great to meet leaders from other schools in the Josephite family and to share ideas about how they will undertake their student leadership responsibilities next year.

Transition and end of year Program

Currently, we are in the process of transitioning to 2023. Year 10 and 11 students have concluded exams and have moved to Term 0 classes until 8 December. Year 7s, 8s, and 9s will also conclude classes on Thursday 8 December. Also, on that day we will gather as a community to celebrate Mass and an assembly to recognise achievements.

All parents are welcome to attend the Mass and Awards Assembly. Seating is provided in the Pioneer Hall.

VCE 2022 Results

Please note that VCE Results will be available to students on the morning of Monday, 12 December and all Year 12s are invited to attend a morning tea which will be held in the cafeteria space in the Senior School Building commencing at 10.30am until 11.30am to celebrate and if they wish to obtain any further career advice.

Staffing News

Today is the last day at Mary MacKillop Catholic Regional College for Kapil Bhargava. Kapil leaves us to commence teaching at another College next week. We thank him and wish Kapil all the best of success.

In our next Newsletter, I will acknowledge all other staff who will not be with us next year as they leave to work elsewhere or take extended leave.

World Youth Day- 2023

For more than 30 years, World Youth Day has been an opportunity for the young people of the world to go on pilgrimage and discover how Jesus calls each of us to be his disciples. World Youth day 2023 will be held in Lisbon, Portugal in the month of August. The major events of World Youth Day include Papal welcome, catechesis, youth festivals, as well as the final pilgrim walk and vigil with Pope Francis and millions of other young Catholics.

The Diocese of Sale is organising groups of young people between the ages of 16-35 and join with the archdiocese of Melbourne for pilgrimage. If you are interested and know more about the pilgrimage, there will be an information night held at St. Agatha’s parish hall, Cranbourne (129 Sladen Street) on 12th December at 7pm. You can also contact Fr. Avinash George for information on avinash.george@cdsale.org.au or 03 59971510.
