From Our School Leaders

CELEBRATION WEEK! WE ARE TURNING 150!

All year we have been planning for this week, and it is finally here! We have had a 150th committee composed of staff (past and present), and an ex-student has also joined us. We have met on Webex over the course of the year.  Everyone on the committee has taken a piece of this event and set about organising, planning and purchasing things to make the week memorable for all. Our committee was:

  • Alison Lancashire - 150th commemorative booklet and minutes
  • Tina Clark – Afternoon tea organisations & general chief purchasing officer
  • Karen Coster – Art Show
  • Raelene Davis, Kellie Symons, Marion Notman and Tracey Raymer - Memorabilia
  • Kellie also put together the old-fashioned games
  • Nicole Rheumer – Videos, time capsule, handprint collage
  • Liz Dinakis and Caroline Foenander - 150th flyer, mini golf booking & balloons
  • Cindy Quin-Prtenjaca – Distributing flyers in the local area & memorabilia
  • Sue Hartley - Commemorative garden

We would like to acknowledge and thank them all for their efforts and hard work. It takes teamwork to put on any whole-school event, and we have had plenty of support from these wonderful people, so - thank you!

150th booklet and gift for each family

Over the year, Alison Lancashire has put together a marvelous booklet about the 150 years of Scoresby Primary School.  It has been quite a job to track down information, but she did, and the booklet is a fantastic memoir that I hope our community will appreciate and enjoy.

We have organised a copy of the 150th booklet, a commemorative bag and a bouncy ball (1 per student) for each family as a gift. These will be sent home with families on Friday.

Extra booklets and bouncy balls will be on sale on the day for others in the community to purchase.

Melbourne Zoo Excursion

We headed into the Melbourne Zoo on Monday for our 150th celebration excursion. It was wet and soggy but it didn't dampen the enthusiasm for the day. Our staff and students showed great resilience and visited many enclosures, and found shelter when it was needed. Thank you to the parents who accompanied the classes on Monday; it was fantastic to have you onboard.

Melbourne Zoo is a much-loved venue and a great place to mark such an occasion. They have just celebrated their 160th birthday so they’re 10 years older than us! They had their celebrations earlier this year.

Science

We have been wanting to bring Science back as a stand-alone subject for a while now, and we will begin next year by offering it fortnightly to Years 1-6. We have a committed teacher for Science, and will develop the program over the coming years.

Robotics and Coding

We will continue to refine and further develop our Robotics and Coding programs across the school next year. Staff are working alongside Nicole Rheumer, learning the curriculum. Our students are developing terrific skills in coding, but it is also developing other skill sets of problem solving, creative thinking and collaboration - all 21st century skills our young people need for success.

We are really looking forward to another exciting year at Scoresby PS!

Colour Run

Our Colour Run will be conducted next Friday afternoon, 25th November, from 2.00pm. Parents are welcome to join in on the fun. We are raising funds for our new library furniture, and would like to encourage our families to keep fundraising as much as they can. This is usually a terrific fundraiser for schools.

Children can wear a white t-shirt to school on the day.  We will be slightly altering the lunch break to 1.00pm - 2.00pm so we can have an extended time to fully enjoy the experience. Fingers crossed for nice weather.
