Learning and Teaching

'Learning is a constant process of discovery.'

The term is moving very quickly and it is wonderful to see how well students are engaging in their learning! In Inquiry students continue to explore the idea of 'Decision-Making' and the concepts of right and wrong, fair and unfair and the obligations that we have to make good choices that benefit others. This is especially timely as our current Year 5s begin to think about stepping up as school leaders for 2023. In the coming weeks they will prepare to present themselves for consideration in these important leadership roles.

3/4 camp

Year 3/4 have also been fortunate to attend camp as part of their outdoor education. Students had a fantastic time at Portsea Camp exploring the beautiful natural environment and taking part in activities like the giant swing, history walks and highropes course. Sincere thanks to our team of staff who attended, and to Mr Ferguson for coordinating the camp. Here are some student recounts from their adventures.

I was at the Portsea camp with my friends and teachers from Wednesday to Friday. We did the giant swing! The food was AMAZING, especially the wraps that we got to make. The dinner was spectacular and the muffins for morning tea were so good. I was sad that I couldn’t have a second muffin! We went to camp because it is kind of a 3/4 tradition, and we got the chance to have fun. This was our second camp this year!

The best thing about Portsea was of course… the food!!!!

I went to Portsea Camp. It was fun. I went there last week. We did activities including the giant swing, the history walk and the high ropes. The food was really nice and my favourite was the rolls – I have a plain roll. At dinner we had mashed potatoes, which I did not like as they tasted raw. In our cabin I was with Ruby, Siya, Allira, Estelle and Milla. The first night it was hot and there were a few bugs around, and we talked!

Last week I was at school camp! My favourite activity was the giant swing. The food was good for the most part, although a few meals were not! Camp was super fun, although there were so many bugs! All in all Portsea Camp was awesome! I’ve always liked bus trips. On the way to camp I got the window seat and the scenery was beautiful. On the way back my friend Ned had the window seat. Afterwards we got our luggage and regrouped in the school hall, and later our parents picked us up. I enjoyed camp so much.

What I first got to Portsea Camp I thought that the place was scary. All the blinds were down and there were so many spiders and mosquitoes. But, the best thing about camp was going on the giant swing for the first time. A funny thing that happened? Rebecca and Alice’s cabin was connected to mine so we could hang out! I really enjoyed the cinnamon and banana muffins. On Thursday Ms McDermott and Buddy the well-being dog came to camp, which was exciting! I took a lot of photos and played a lot of games.
