Robosapiens
On Wednesday 18 November, two teams from the Robotics Club, the Robosapiens took part in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge at Swinburne University of Technology in Wantirna.
The teams - Red Bulls and Monsters - for months prepared for the competition at lunchtimes and during the school holidays. The competition comprised of two challenges, the first part was coding the robots to complete different types of missions on the game mat and the other part was to present an innovation project. The theme of the innovation project this year was clean energy. The Red Bulls chose to focus on Solar Powered Cars and The Monsters, Nuclear Power Plants. To attract the attention of the judges both teams made amazing prototypes to propose their ideas.
The day was full of different types of emotions, nervousness, excitement, and some stress but the day had an exciting outcome, the Red Bulls (Viha Shah, Kemy Li, Taliah O’Quely, Katherine Gessonthomas and Sarah Williams) won the Innovation Project award whilst the Monsters (Elsa Yu, Millie Bennett, Ali Corbett, Lana Horn, Harper Jekot, Grace Liu, Vivi Shuleva, and, Anuki Udawatha Arachchige) won the Core Values award.
To our amazement both teams progressed to the National level of FLL which will be held on 3 December right here in Victoria. We will be up against teams from South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
A big thank you to Ms Leong and Mr Verimieff for all their spare time spent with us to help prepare for the competition and getting us to the venue. Also thank you to the Parents and Friends Association for funding the mission mat and the robots.
