Principal's message

Dear MGSC community

I dedicate this message to our Year 12 students, having just spent the delightful evening with them, their families and their teachers at their Valedictory Dinner at the San Remo Ballroom. I thank Sylvia Christopoulos (Director of Senior School) and Vana Dimu & Jackie Mathews (Year 12 Student Managers) and Carol Duggan (Assistant Principal) for supporting the Year 12 students throughout the year and for organising the evening.

Dear Year 12 students

I am so pleased that you have been able to have an uninterupted year without lockdowns or remote learning and that you were able to enjoy your final year of high school onsite.  Six years has really flown by so quickly for the Class of 2022, hasn’t it?

Throughout your six-year journey, you have lived by the school motto of “Courage and Work”.  You have demonstrated a commitment to your studies and to supporting each other.

Our motto, “Courage and Work” is about bracing yourself before taking a leap into the unknown.  It is about taking measured, bold and confident steps moving forward. Learning is a lifelong endeavour which is fueled by inquisitiveness and curiosity. Yes, you have finished your exams, but the learning journey isn’t over yet.

So, Year 12 students – be the best that you can be, and pursue your passions every day. Stay true to yourself, and above all, believe in yourself. It is time for you to show the world beyond the school gates exactly what students from MGSC are capable of.

As I mentioned at your last assembly, my first full year at MGSC was also your first year.  As I reflect on your journey over the past six years (and especially through 2020 and 2021) when we were apart more than we were together, I feel very strongly that it was the sense of belonging and community that helped us get through those periods of isolation.

I thank you for contributing positively to our school over the past six years and I especially give my thanks to our College Captains, Olivia Gryszan and Isobel Long for leading the school.

I wish you all the best for your journey moving forward.

Stay strong and flourish.

Best wishes
