Media Project Premiere Night a Success

On 10/9/18 our first VCE MEDIA Project Premiere Night was held at  the Foundry Arts Space, where parents and community members viewed the students’ major projects. The night was a huge success, with plenty of applause and admiration for the students’ work, and we hope to continue the successes of our first film night in the coming years.

Please see below for photos from the night.

Year 12 Chemistry Titration Competition

Mr Leslie would like to congratulate his year 12 chemistry class on their results in the RACI 2018 State Titration Competition.

Students were placed into teams of three and then given the task of determining the concentration of ethanoic acid in a sample of vinegar. This required them to have lots of patience and an excellent attention to detail. The difference between 1st place and 50th place might be three drops of acid! Out of the 380 teams which entered from across the state, the results were:

16th Place - A. Rush, A. Tomkinson, J. Rochford

32nd place - A. Brown, M. O’Connell, L. Monaghan

88th place – A. Ball, K. Mammone, E. Rorke

All teams placed in the top 50 in the state will move onto the national competition, which will take place this week at the school.

Congratulations to all involved.

Year 9 Beacon Mock Interviews

On Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th the Year 9 students took part in the Beacon Mock Interviews Program at St. Joseph’s College.  The program helps young people practice their interview, resume’s and cover letter skills.  Students were both nervous and excited at the prospect of their interview and all said that it was a valuable experience and will assist them in the future looking for part-time or full-time work.  The Beacon Leaders of 2018 did an excellent job over the two days, collecting students for their interview and explaining to students about the interview process which helped calm some nerves.

St. Joseph’s College would like to thank all the interviewers who gave up their time to allow this program to become a valuable learning tool for Year 9 students and also to Cheryl Sweeney, Beacon Coordinator, for her work with the Beacon Foundation.
