2019 Year 7 Camp

Last week, the Year 7 students enjoyed a 3-day camp to Phillip Island. The camp is designed to allow students to form friendships and get to know others from their year level, with a lot of the activities requiring team work. Despite the rainy and windy weather, the students got through many indoor activities and were so understanding about not being able to do all the outdoor activities. Students participated in initiation games, cooking pancakes, Zumba, mini Olympics, disc golf, giant swing, canoeing and rock climbing, just to name a few.  It is always wonderful to witness students coming back from camp with a new-found confidence and new friends.

School Captains attended leadership training at the Hume Global Learning Centre this week and their Induction Assembly was held on Wednesday. The leadership training brings all the Captains in the College together and allows them to build on skills and work together as a leadership team. Congratulations to all the Captains and I wish them the best for 2019.

Dunhelen Swimming Carnival

The Dunhelen Swimming carnival will be held on Wednesday 27 February. Girls will need to be in a one piece competitive style swimsuit or will need to be wearing a rash vest. All students will be required to wear a rash vest or house t-shirt when they are not in the water. Please do provide your child with sunscreen. The swimming carnival is always a fun day, please feel free to visit if you have time. Hopefully, we will get some sunny Melbourne weather.

Parent Email Addresses

Please use your own email address when emailing teachers, we need to be as sure as we can that we are communicating with a parent and not a student. Students should also be using their school email address when communicating with staff. Teachers will only respond to student emails if they are from the school email address.

Dunhelen Information Evening

Thank you to all parents who attended the Dunhelen Information evening during the first week of term. For parents who did not attend, I spoke about the importance of sleep for teenagers. Students should be having 9 hours of sleep a night. Lack of sleep has not only been linked to poor performance but also poor mental health and wellbeing. I encourage you to help your child establish a good sleep program. This may include setting a bed time, making sure the room is dark and quiet, offering a good book and most importantly removing all electronic devices from their bedroom. Teenagers are not adults, they are still children just in bigger bodies and they still need guidance, boundaries and routine.  I have attached an article that was handed out on the night and a teacher contact list for your information.
