Anxiety and Depression in Children. Invitation to Participate in a Free Research Program
The increase in anxiety and related mental health issues in young people has been alarming over the past two decades. Here at Aitken College we deal with this on a regular basis in partnership with outside expertise. If this touches your family, I encourage you to look at the attached document which offers a free Online Program for parents and children which is being run by Monash University.

ANZAC and Remembrance Day
Every year we celebrate ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day with a formal service at Aitken College. In addition to the Victorian Police Band Bagpiper and the Salvation Army Bugler going a long way to create the solemn ambiance of the service, we are also fortunate to be able to use the Catafalque party from the 35 Army Cadet Unit in Broadmeadows each year.
The Catafalque party is made up of young male and female cadets, highlighting the veterans and current men and women of the Defence Force to whom we owe our freedom and remember on these days.
I had the privilege of attending the 35 Army Cadet Unit’s year-end dinner in December last year, which three of our students attended. This is the first dinner of its kind to be held for many years and was conducted with the protocol of a military function. It was an absolute pleasure to see so many young men and women, learning the functions and value of the military services with great enthusiasm and deep respect.
I was looked after for the evening by Cadet Corporal, Amy W and caught up with Lance Corporal, Anastacia M and Cadet, Patrick T.
I look forward to their involvement in our services again this year; the ANZAC Day Service will be held at Aitken College on Wednesday 24 April at 10.30am.

Church for Life in 2019 at Aitken College - Invitation
Well the new school year is underway. Welcome back to all, and to any new families and students, it is really great to have you join the Aitken Community. Many of you will be aware that over the past couple of years we have been slowly laying the groundwork to establish a regular Sunday Christian Worship Service at Aitken College.
In 2019, we have appointed Rev Jim Vaughn as Community Chaplain at Aitken College and part of his work will be to focus on building up and continuing this initiative. Perhaps you would like to join us.
Church for Life is a place for families and friends, not just the Aitken Community, but the wider community as well. It is a fun time of learning and pastoral care and a real place where our children can find a home with other children in their faith journey. Parents as well.
Our first Service in 2019 will be held on Sunday 24 February in the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre foyer, at 10.30am. Why not come along and be a part of something new and growing and really worthwhile. Please feel free to contact Rev Jim Vaughn or Mr Chris Ward at the College if you have any questions. We look forward to meeting with you on the 24th.
Please refer to the attached flyer for full details.
Parenting Evenings at Aitken College
Over the course of 2019, several Parenting Evenings will be held at the College which will aim to address some of the contemporary concerns relating to raising children and issues which relate to growing up and relationships in these critical school years.
A warm invitation is extended to all parents to attend the first of these Parent Evenings to be held on Wednesday 6 March in Common Room 1 at the College at 7.30pm. The topic for this evening will be: 'Bullying, My child and Building Resilience'.
If you would like to attend, please return the attached form to Mr Chris Ward. If you have any questions, please contact me at:
