Dunhelen Writing Awards

The annual Dunhelen Writing Awards presentation took place this week at Assembly. It is always very hard for staff to declare a winner and this year was no exception. The English teachers of Years 7, 8 and 9, led by Mr Politini, read through the submitted pieces and then met to determine the overall winners. Our Principal, Mrs Crisara, also reads all the pieces and determines a Principal’s Award. The work submitted was wonderful. The pieces consisted of explorations into human nature and the world, addressing issues that young people face, memories, reflections and fictional pieces. The writers were able to convey their perceptions so eloquently, whether it was presented in the form of a story, letter, diary or poem. Congratulations to all the budding authors.

This year the awards were presented to:

Year 7 Excursion to the Melbourne Zoo

This week the Year 7 students attended an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo. The zoo is always a fun place to visit and this year was no exception. Even though the students were expected to complete some Indonesian work, they still managed to have a great time and got a taste of independence. Teachers were based around the zoo and students, in groups, made their own way around. A big thank you to all staff that attended, especially, Mr Simon Adams, who organised the day.

Mid-Term Break

A reminder to parents that the Melbourne Cup Weekend is upon us. Monday 4 November is a student free day, as is Tuesday 5 November. The four-day break will provide an opportunity for students to catch up with any work. It is also a time for them to refresh and be ready for the rest of the final term for 2019. The rest of the year will go very fast and I encourage students to try their hardest, be the best they can be and finish the year on a positive note.
