Principal's Report

I write this newsletter as Acting Principal while Mr Haworth is on four weeks leave. We wish him all the best in his travels around Australia and we are looking forward to hearing about the adventures he will have.

Along with all the usual extra-curricular activities at the college such as our clubs, Staff versus Student competitions and special groups such as Nitro, Le Mana and the Extension Writing Group, we have recently seen show cased the special talents of our Performing Arts students.

In Week Six, the Year 12  Drama class presented some innovative and creative performance pieces based on the students own imagination and explorations around a theme of evil. These performances will constitute part of the students’ Unit 3 VCE assessments and as such, it was wonderful to see the complex ideas explored and the level of professionalism shown.

In addition, in Week Seven, the Performing Arts students in Years 7 to 12 put on a brilliant show including music performances, dance and singing. The students were well rehearsed and presented with so much energy, enthusiasm and confidence – we are so proud of how they have risen to the challenge and overcome their nerves to perform in front of a large audience of families and supporters. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Performing Arts team, including our drama, dance, voice and instrumental music teachers, and congratulate them on the excellence they have nurtured and encouraged within our students.

In Week Eight, the Year 11 Drama students presented their monologues around the theme of 'School Rulz and other Issues' which will also be assessed as part of their VCE studies. Well done to the Ms Lingard who has worked so hard to provide assistance and support to for students to reach their potential.

If you have signed an excursion permission form recently, your student will be one of many who has been afforded the opportunity to be involved in exciting ‘real life’ learning experiences within the wider community.

Some of the excursions that have been organised by teachers in the past few weeks are

  • The Ancient China Terracotta Warrior Exhibition
  • GTAC Excursion
  • County Court and Parliament
  • Various Sports
  • Healesville Sanctuary
  • Frankston Arts Centre

This is yet further evidence of how the teachers at Hampton Park Secondary College go above and beyond to make learning engaging for our students.

Lastly, parents and carers should be aware that our Year 10 and VCE students are commencing an exam period as of this week, and we are asking families to assist students by ensuring they have a quiet place to study, and a study timetable for this period of focussed learning.

Please be aware that Friday June 21st is a student free assessment and reporting day at the college, where staff will be undertaking the very demanding task of completing all their assessments and writing reports which will be made visible to parents on Compass in the first week of Term Three. Due to continuous reporting however, parents/carers are still able to access feedback on their students Learning Tasks.

As I myself will be going on leave from June 14th, I would like to wish all college members and families a safe and enjoyable school holiday. The most capable Ms Eloise Haynes will be taking over as Acting Principal in the last two weeks of term and I wish her all the best in the role.
