Sub School Learning Leader Report

Term 2 is well underway and has been a busy time for our Year 9 and 10 students.

At Year 9 we are currently in the middle of collecting student’s expression of interest forms for their upcoming camp to Halls Gap. I am happy to announce that the camp will be going ahead for all students as one group from Monday the 28th of October to Wednesday the 30th.

We will be working with a fantastic organisation called OutBeyond who are ensuring that this camp is driven by our students, meeting their needs, and helping them to develop resilience and leadership skills. We are still taking expression of interest forms at the front office and we can happily arrange payment plans and for CSEF forms to be signed. With the new revised dates this does mean that our numbers are capped so it is important that forms are returned quickly if you would like to join us.

Our Year 9 students have also recently completed their NAPLAN assessments and should be commended for their effort and pride in their hard work. For these students this is the first time they have sat an assessment in the format that is used for VCE exams and while it can be a little daunting, they were very mature and really pushed themselves hard to should what they are truly capable of. Well Done!

At Year 10 students went out on work experience to put their skill and knowledge from Exploring Careers into practice. It is a credit to the amazing young people at the College that so many of them got glowing reports and more than 10 students have been offered part time work! Congratulations to our Year 10’s for your excellent work ethic over the week.

We also have Peter Evans at the College who has been working with several of our students through the HeadStart program to design personalised school-based apprenticeships, workplace and VCE/VCAL plans for several of our Year 10 students. This means that students who have a keen interest in particular areas will be able to spend time learning in a workplace and complete a Certificate 3 while getting either their VCAL or VCE certificates. It is a fantastic opportunity to give our students a head start on their careers while completing their high school education at the College.

In Middle School we have had quite a few excursions over the last few weeks including Recreational sports students attending Clip ‘N’ Climb for climbing and to Rush HQ for trampolining. These activities show our students that there are a range of ways that we can build physical activity into our daily lives outside of structured sports.

We have also had our Year 10’s attend an immersion day on Monash University Clayton, helping our students to determine their future pathways and ambitions after Hampton Park.

Middle School is always a hive of activity with students participating in many programs that continuing their learning beyond the classroom walls. This Term we have students who are participating in Operation New Start, DOXA career mentoring workshops, debating, Tri-tactics, Le Mana, World Vision Youth Conference, Division Cross Country, sports mentoring at the local primary schools and the list goes on.

Students are encouraged to see Middle School or the Student Engagement office if they wanted to learn about some of the fantastic opportunities we have for the rest of Term 2 and start of Term 3.

With only a couple of weeks left of Term I would like to wish all of our Middle School students the best of luck with their upcoming CATs. For students completing an accelerated subject I hope that all of your hard work so far this year is seen in how prepared you are for the Mid Year Exams.

Wishing everyone a safe and restful Term holidays and we are looking forward to working with everyone during Term 3 on subject selections and course counselling.

Year 10 Schools Access Monash

On 7th June, 100 of our Year 10 students attended Monash University Clayton as part of the Schools Access Monash Program.

This program gives students a first-hand university experience combined with the opportunity to meet and work with current Monash students.

Students get to explore the campus, including the facilities and services available, learn more about higher education and are empowered to further explore and evaluate study and career options.
