Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS

Respectful Relationships is an initiative to support schools and early childhood education settings promote and model respect and equality. It also supports educators to teach our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

The whole-school approach to Respectful Relationships goes beyond curriculum, recognising that to drive real change, classroom learning needs to be reinforced by what is modelled within the school community. Respect for self and others underpins the culture of any community or society.

Teaching respectful relationships is a key component of our well-being program in schools and we remind our students weekly to be their best, help others succeed and to respect their school.

SAFE TRAVEL TO AND FROM SCHOOL

We make mention of this on a regular basis but from time to time a reminder is required. It’s important that all students are walking their bikes along Jamieson Street past the front of our school at drop off and collection time.

Everyone knows how busy that section of road is at that time and to avoid an accident it is a necessary requirement. There is also a new crossing in the making along Raglan Parade on the corner of Ardlie Street. This has been a win for the community who lobbied for this introduction over many months.

There are three large schools which use this intersection so it is a pleasing announcement. Please consider reinforcing this safety message at home.

100 DAYS OF FOUNDATION - THURSDAY 3RD AUGUST

Next week we will be celebrating our Foundation students 100 days of school. We are asking our Foundation students to come dressed as their 100 year old self and they will enjoy some activities throughout the day themed around 100. This is a wonderful achievement for our younger students and we can't wait to celebrate you all.

YEAR 5 CAMP- SOVEREIGN HILL

Wednesday 2nd - Friday 4th August 2023

The excitement is building for the Year 5 Camp to Sovereign Hill, Ballarat. The Year 5 teachers have been busy organising all the fun activities in addition to the famous classroom role plays.

This promises to be a very entertaining but valuable learning experience for all of our Year 5’s. Below is some important information that you need to know, so please have a read and contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

  • We are departing at 8am, so students need to be at school by 7.30am-7.45am.
  • Any students who experience travel sickness should sit at the front of the bus and, if taking travel sickness medication, should be taken prior to departure along with a sensible breakfast.
  • On Friday 4th, we aim to arrive back at school at approximately 3.30pm. If your child usually takes the school bus home, please make other arrangements as they may not be back in time to catch school buses.
  • Please go over the packing list with your child and note that they need linen and a towel as well as plenty of water and food for the first day, in a backpack. The weather will be very cold and students MUST bring a coat.
  • Any students who are not attending will be allocated to a different classroom and should report to the main office each morning.
  • Use the medicine form to provide details of any medicine administration requirements. If possible, please bring in any medication on Monday or Tuesday prior to camp and give it to your child's teacher. This will make it easier for us on Wednesday morning and would be much appreciated.

ABORIGINAL CHILDREN'S DAY - FRIDAY 4TH AUGUST

Our Year 1 Koorie students will have the opportunity to join in with a celebration for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day on Thursday 4th August 4th at Harris Street Reserve, Warrnambool. Students will depart at approximately 10.15am and return around 12.30pm.

Activities include face painting, cultural activities and a BBQ at 12noon. Parents of those students involved will be required to provide permission via Compass once the event is published.

DEBATING TEAMS- YEAR 6

The Year 6 debating teams competed at the Eisteddfod on Monday and performed extremely well. Mr Fraser was pleased with the results overall but singled out the winning team overall- Alyssa Smith, Jagger Lynch and Noah O’Connor for their preparation and performance.

Well done to all the students who participated. We have our Year 5 teams competing today.

DISCO

Thank-you to our wonderful Warrnambool Primary Parents Association for organising and supervising the Foundation - Year 2 and then the Years 3-6 Disco last Friday night.

The children really enjoyed the experience and it was pleasing to see them have fun with their friends at school but in an exciting setting.

Have a great weekend!
