Level 4 at Work
The students in Level 4 recently finished learning about the Geography unit 'Our Island Home'. Within this unit, students learnt about various biomes around the world. This included developing an understanding of different climate zones, geographical locations, structural features and the flora/fauna of different biomes. Students then completed their own inquiry project, where they selected a biome they wished to learn more about. They used their research skills find out about the positive and negative impact humans have had on a particular biome located around the world and ways in which people are now protecting them. Students chose their own method to share their findings with their peers. Some of these included creating dioramas, PowerPoint presentations, posters and giving a Ted Talk. The quality of work and depth of research that the students completed was outstanding.
â A biome is a land with different areas, climates and animal vegetation. I chose a dessert which is mostly yellow with dried up plants. Only animals that can survive in extreme temperatures and weather live there.â Alex 4K â Biomes are a place where animals live, itâs their habitat. I made a Coniferous forest and enjoyed researching and looking at a variety of plants and animals that live there.â Albe 4WBâA Biome is a place for animals to live and is natural thing like a non-urban development. I made mine using paint, and making trees using paper, cardboard and animal sculptures.â Ivy 4K-  âBiomes are areas that have different temperatures and climates. I created a deciduous forest which is found in Japan, UK and Canada. I enjoyed making broken trees in my biome to tell people not to cut down trees and show how harmful it is.â Alisha 4WB
