Captains Corner 

Adrina - For the past couple weeks, the Year Six students have been fortunate enough to have some university students from Deakin Science come and visit us and introduce us to Chemistry. The student teachers come every Thursday and we work on our knowledge of Chemistry. Although we have only had two sessions with them and we have not yet fully started studying, we have grown familiar with the base idea and continue to build on our comprehension of the subject with every lesson. Tomorrow is our third session but it is the actually the first session that we actually start experimenting. I am very excited for what is to come and I look forward to our future sessions.

Isaac - We are lucky enough to have Deakin University students come to our school to teach us science. It is good to have an extra science to learn more about chemistry. We do it every Thursday which is great thing to look forward to every week. My favourite thing about it is getting to know different people and learning the activity solids liquids and gas where we had to stick them in the right column. Overall, I really have enjoyed Deakin Science so far.

Jude - This term, the Year Six studet have started Deakin Science.  Deakin Science is a program where student teachers from Deakin University teach us grade sixes about chemistry.  An activity I really enjoyed was making a big poster about all we know about science. Although we have only had a couple lessons, I can already tell that this will be a great experience. I’m really looking forward to doing experiments and bonding with my classmates whilst doing fun experiments. 

Jenna - The Year Sixes are humbled to have the opportunity to learn chemistry from several students of Deakin University. We have been studying the three states of matter and common terms used in chemistry. This will give us a most useful advantage in high school from Years 7-9 in comprehension of basic science skills, and an insight for what science subject we would like to study and test in VCE from Years 10-12. This is also a chance to build our teamwork skills and bond with our classmates. We have built a basic understanding of chemistry and continue to add to it piece by piece.
