HSIE
Bonjour !
This term in French students in year 8 are completing a unit called “My traveling kit”. Students are learning about how to ask and give directions in French as well as learning about places in towns. Students have also been investigating different locations in Francophone countries and researching places they may like to visit in the future.
Whilst learning about prepositions of place over the last couple of weeks students have created posters to help them remember the different terms for the locations of objects and places.
Students have been demonstrating excellent creative skills in their visual representations and have been able to use their designs to help them with further learning activities.
Students have also shown great creativity and excellent use of technology in their development of presentations to help teach themselves and their peers the names of places in town. Students were very clever and used Scratch, Clipcut, Canva and google slides to animate and edit videos including audio to help them learn the names of places in towns. Please ask our year 8’s to show you what they have created!
Over the coming weeks the year 8 French students will be continuing to work on their travel skills including giving and asking for phone numbers, reading town maps, practicing giving directions and as always playing lots of games to practice their speaking and listening skills.

RE
Year 8 Religion students have commenced a unit called 'Striving for Goodness'. They have been learning about ways to share positivity and kindness with the people around them and on Friday we "chalked the Quad" with messages to brighten the day of our peers and teachers.

Enrichment
* Year 7 PRAXIS have begun their new unit of work Create Your Own Country, focused on Project Based Learning (PBL).
Students will work in small groups to design their own countries including such features as the country name, flag, currency and political system. At the end of the term they will present their PBLs to an authentic audience.
*The Australian National Virtual Debating Competition is drawing to a close and what an exciting tournament it has been. Our students have debated schools from all across NSW, VIC and ACT with quite a few victories. It has been wonderful to see the students develop their public speaking skills and hone the art of rebuttal...which is basically destroying the opposition's arguments in a concise and logical manner.

Maths
It’s been a busy start to the term in the Mathematics KLA.
We are quickly heading towards the halfway point of term.
Our focus in this newsletter will be our Year 12 students and the upcoming Trial HSC examinations.
All HSC Mathematics classes have completed their respective courses and students are busily preparing for the Trial HSC Examinations which will give the students and teachers a strong indication of strengths and weaknesses and a chance for students to show what they know. Exam pressure is different for everyone but this time to experience what the real HSC exams will be like next term is invaluable. We are lucky to have the HSC Presiding officer overseeing our Trial HSC exams again this year which will give students an authentic simulated experience.
Success comes from being prepared and revision is a crucial part of that. Past Papers, summaries and seeking help when needed is crucial.
A reminder that all HSC Mathematics teachers will make themselves available during standard lesson times to be there for any students from their classes should they need any extra support during the Trial examination period.
Good luck to all candidates, I look forward to witnessing the successes and growth that comes from this Final formal HSC assessment task.
