Ballad by Lucinda Elford (Year 7)
Ballad
Macey was a normal girl
Living a normal life
But one day a Donkey came to see her
Telling her, her life was in strife
A dark brooding darkness
Was forming in the west
Requiring Macey to fight
“We must go on a quest!”
“Why me” Macey exclaimed
“The gods choose you” the Donkey said
“Well, I’m not going” Macey retorted
And went to claim her bread
The Donkey stopped her and spoke
“You must go, or your life will never be the same”
“I told you before, I’m not going”
And went to play a game
The Donkey got angry, oh he did
“YOU MUST GO” He screamed
Macey stopped in her tracks shaking with fear
The Donkey simply said “I need some cream”
“I-I-I’ll go” Macey stuttered
“Good, well what are we waiting for?”
“Can I ride you” Macey asked
“You can for sure”
So, off the road
Down the track
Macey riding the donkey
The Donkey eating a Big Mac
For weeks on end, they rode
When they arrived
Macey asked, “Can I go for a swim?”
Without waiting for answer in she dived
As soon as she did, she got attacked
She ran out of the water screaming and howling
Hopped back on donkey
Convulsing and scowling
“Why didn’t you wait for an answer?” The Donkey asked
She shrugged her shoulders sadly
“Here drink this” The Donkey said
“Anyway, we need to get back on badly”
“We need to badly what?”
“Sorry we’re being written in a ballad.”
“So?” “So, we have to rhyme every second and fourth line.”
“Oh, I see let’s get some salad.”
“Salad?” “Sorry, you know, second and fourth.”
“Oh yeah” Then a dark brooding mass towered over them.”
“Is this what I gotta fight against?
“Yeah” “oh fun” and she whipped out a gem
She turned and offered it to the monster
“Do you wanna be friends” She asked
The monster said “yes”
And took of his mask
Underneath the mask was a boy face
A handsome one at that
Started off his huge costume
And pulled out a hat
Nobody has ever asked me to be friends before” he said
Donkey whispered “that turned out different than expected”
Years later Macey and the Boy are married
Long ago the boy happily remembered.
