Condolences

The College extends its condolences to the Wilson family and the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, on the loss of Sister Frances Wilson RNDM. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,

and let Your perpetual light shine upon her.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed

rest in peace.

Amen.

Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist

I would like to ask the College community to remember in their prayers for the Year 7 & 8 students who are beginning their journey towards completing their initiation into the life of Christ through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

Fr William Ousley OMI

Feast of Saints Joachim and Anne was on Wednesday 26 July.

Grandparents are beautiful gifts to any family and their presence is a blessing to both their children and their grandchildren. Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of Mary and the grandparents of Jesus, are perfect examples for us and powerful intercessors.

Below is the prayer for the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne, asking their intercession, that we may be drawn closer to God.

O Lord, God of our Fathers,

who bestowed on Saints Joachim and Anne this grace,

that of them should be born the Mother of your incarnate Son,

grant, through the prayers of both,

that we may attain the salvation you have promised to your people.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Amen

Fr Gerry's Visit

Over the past two weeks the College has been blessed with old boy and boarder, Fr Gerard Conlan OMI spending time with us. Fr Gerard has celebrated masses, had meals with boarders and spent time catching up with staff. He has visited years 10 – 12 religion classes sharing his story being a student of Mazenod, before joining the Kalgoorlie school of mines and working as an engineer.

He then was inspired by Fr Charlie Burrows OMI and Fr McMahon OMI to join the Oblates and share in missionary work in Kenya. He has spoken about the important principles of working together with people and using gifts and talents in different ways to make a difference in people’s lives. Fr Gerard also spoke about the importance of finding meaning, hope, joy and learning through life’s struggles and challenges. A great message for all, especially for our young men. Thank you Fr Gerry!

Outreach at the Cathedral

Starting in Term 2, students from Mazenod and St Brigid’s have joined with volunteers from The Shopfront to provide outreach to those in need at St Mary’s Cathedral. The students have been providing hospitality to the visitors in the form of hot drinks, soup and toasted sandwiches. This form of outreach to the CBD is becoming a fixture for our senior students wanting to engage in Christian Service experiences as volunteers.

A number of the students who went on the Rosies Immersion to Brisbane when they were in Year 11 last year, are now volunteering with The Shopfront’s Outreach at the Cathedral. This has created a wonderful connection between our partnerships with both Rosies in Queensland and The Shopfront.
