Teams in the Spotlight

Week 1

Mazza Bulls (U16 D3)

Coach: Marcus Gonzalez

Players: Aiden, Ethan, Ethan, Brayden, Brock, Lucas, Isaac, Logan

Team Manager: Sarah Knox

What makes your team special – “each player brings a different skill to the team. This is their second season playing together this year. Some players have been playing together for many years with some being friends since primary school. They are all dedicated to the game and show respect to others and team members.”

One player who stands out from the rest – “Brock, he has the right attitude and is always interested in the game. He pushes himself both at training and at the games. He is a great team player”.

MAZZA SHARKS U14

This is our second season playing as the Mazza Sharks U14. All our players are Year 8 students and at the beginning of this season we got two new players.

We have eight players - Aiden, Cade, Charlie, Hamish, Harry, Joshua, Nathan and Tom.  Our coach is a Year 10 student, Aiden S and this season we have Vicky as our team manager.

Last season, the boys played a whole season against 3 strong opponent teams that had a large number of WABL players. It was a tough season, but our coach did a great job in teaching us some new skills, we worked hard at training and we were awarded Runner Up Champions in U14 Division 1.

Our Team Player Award goes to Nathan S.

Nathan is a good team player by giving up his time on the court for the benefit of the team winning their games. He is always at training and tries his best to improve his basketball skills.

MAZZA LAKERS U18

This is the Mazza Laker’s third season, made of a team of Year 10s playing Under 18s Division 3. This team was formed mainly by one friend group and as the coach I feel that it helped strengthen the teammates' relationship with one another. Over our 3 seasons, we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs with injuries to many players, on-court accidents and some issues within the team. It seems the boys always come out smiling on the other end, win or lose, and have always stuck together over the past year.

We’ve still yet to overcome the challenge of winning our division due to being one of the youngest teams in the division but I feel that this year with our team soon to be healthy again we will come away victorious.

Our team player award goes to Mathew C, who has never been selfish on the court or had problems. He is always willing to take any role, if that is to sit on the bench to let another guy play whilst he is hot or to be the one who we look to to score in big moments. He always has shown up to training and hasn’t missed a game or training in 2 seasons. He truly is a great teammate and represents the College’s values every time he plays.

MJBC Committee

The committee is calling out for volunteers. The committee’s existence heavily relies on parent volunteers with the same mindset of providing our sons with the opportunity to, not only participate in sport, but also engage in healthy behaviours and friendships. This is also an opportunity for parents to experience the same by connecting with other parents.

Sadly as the club continues to grow and develop, the workload is increasingly difficult to manage with such a small group of volunteers. The committee is made up of parents who are also full time/part time workers with families. It had come to the point that without more support, the committee may be forced to reduce the number of teams put forward for season 2 for the KDBA competition. Ideally this is not what we want to happen but it is the direction this is heading.
