Yaama!

St Edward's NAIDOC Week 2023 Assembly

For Our Elders

Yaama families and community,

We send a warm invitation to our families and Elders to join us for our NAIDOC Week Assembly on Wednesday 9th August at the Primary Campus.

Our Welcome to Country and flag raising ceremony will begin at 12:30pm in the quadrangle space between the Office and Library at the Primary Campus.

We will then move to the Hall to follow with our NAIDOC Assembly that will then be finished with a light lunch with our families and Elders.

We look forward to seeing our community come together to celebrate our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community and Elders.

REMINDER:

We are asking for images of your child with their Elder/s or anyone they look up to in their Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.  These images will be placed into a video that will be played during our NAIDOC Week Assembly.

Images to be sent to bcloake2@arm.catholic.edu.au by Friday 28th July.

Maarubaa,

(thankyou)

Deadly Achievements

During the official NAIDOC Week celebrations, Ivy Allan and Rhiannon O’Leary took part in various NAIDOC celebrations across our community. Their highlights were dancing at the Tamworth NAIDOC Week Corroboree. In the lead up, the miyays (girls) participated in a number of dance workshops facilitated by the Gomeroi Dance Company in preparation for the Corroboree. Over 120 young people danced to show their love and respect for Dhiriyagu (our Elders). They were especially proud to perform for Dhiriyagu during the Elder’s long Lunch. Ivy performed with the Gomeroi Dance Company, while Rhiannon danced with Tamworth South Public School, led by Kaliela Thornton and Kim Kent. The miyays danced with such pride, stepping up to continue the legacy that has been created by Dhiriyagu.

Yaluu!

Term 3 Year 2 Leaders

Congratulations to our Term 3 Infants Leaders. Each term new Infants Leaders are selected to be role models for our K-2 students, responsibly completing daily jobs for teachers and always displaying respectful behaviour in the classroom and on the playground.  We are so proud of you!!

Crossing Safety Matters

We remind parents and carers to please use the designated school pedestrian crossing when walking your child/ren to and from the school grounds.  Please DO NOT take a short-cut across the road or walk in front of or behind buses.   We ask that parents use the pedestrian crossing to show our children the correct way to cross the road.

We also remind parents NOT to park in the school bus zones during the hours of 8.00am - 9.30am and 2.30pm - 4.00pm.  If parents do park in the bus bay during these times, it can cause great frustration for the bus drivers and is also a safety concern.  Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and school community safe.

Student Absences

Please remember that all absences must be explained within 7 days of your child being away.  You will receive an automated SMS message at 10.00am on the day to remind you to explain the absence on the Parent Compass Portal.
