Principal's Message

Ms Alessandra Morrone

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term three has started with several special events such as Cross Country, PJ Day and Interschool Cross Country held at Hawker Park Primary School. Our first assembly for the term will be on Friday, presented by the Year 5/6 class (Emu's).

As a staff, we have been looking at areas of whole school improvement that align with Department policies such as 'Say no to violence' and 'Stand together against violence' and student and staff health and well-being. More information regarding whole school improvements will be shared through Class Dojo, School Board and P&C meetings.

Congratulations to our Interschool Cross Country team in demonstrating excellent team spirit, determination, unity and resilience. We are very proud of how you all conducted yourself on the day and enjoyed every moment as a team. Special thank you to Mr Lee,

Mr Tomlinson and Ms Watkins for their amazing efforts and organisation of the event, ensuring the morning went smoothly.

STAFFING

We welcome Sacha Middleton and Hayley Wilson, who are team teaching the Year 2 students (Magpies), Corrine Long, who is teaching Wallabies Kindy students on Thursdays and Fridays and Emma Moran, who is teaching the Year 3/4 class (Echidnas). These staff come to Marangaroo with a strong skill set that has already contributed to our whole school improvement planning.

I congratulate Robert Lee (PE and Science) on his secondment to TAFE commencing next week. Mr Lee has been an integral part of Marangaroo, and even though we will not see him at school every day, Mr Lee will teach on Mondays and Tuesdays. We welcome Sharon Haigh, who will be working with Mr Lee. Both Mr Lee and Ms Haigh are looking forward to working together to strengthen the sport and PE program.

A complete staff list will be sent to parents via Class Dojo on Friday. Please contact your teacher if you haven't already accepted your Class Dojo invitation to join your child's class. They will be able to assist you.

PEAC Year 4

Yesterday, 1 August, our Year 4 students participated in the annual Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC). This opportunity measures the student's ability to recognise patterns and to predict with speed and accuracy. It will also measure each child's ability to apply their knowledge and learning. The scores from the test will be used in selecting students for PEAC courses and extension programs from 2024 to 2025. I am sure our Year 4 students will tackle the test with determination and diligence.

SCHOOL GATES

We have put in place measures to ensure we open the gates at 8.30 am every morning and just before 3 pm at pick up. Generally, the golf course gate is locked around 8.50 am every morning. However, we have arranged for the golf course gate to be unlocked but closed on Monday mornings until 9.20 am, when we will lock the gate. This is to support parents and carers visiting the uniform shop before school.

We will continue to monitor the gates and make adjustments as required. I appreciated the parents who recently brought their concerns to my attention. I strongly believe in working together with families and the community to ensure a better and stronger Marangaroo school.

P&C

On Monday evening, 31 July, the P&C met for the first time this term. Several agenda items were discussed that included fundraising events and teaching and learning resource options that the money raised could be spent on. I want to acknowledge the time and effort that our wonderful P&C continue to contribute to supporting our school. Thank you for making a difference!

Please read through the P & C section of the newsletter for up-and-coming events and ways you may be able to help out.

Have a great rest of the week!
